JOB DESCRIPTION

Background:

ELEVATE Nutrition (Enhancing Local Efforts for Vital, Transformative, and Evidence-Based Nutrition), funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is a five-year cooperative agreementled by FHI 360 in collaboration with Action Against Hunger, Bixal, CNFA: Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture, GEMNet-Health, and Oxford Policy Management. The project aims to advance local implementation of high-quality nutrition programs and policies to improve the nutritional status of women and children, particularly in the first 1,000 days. ELEVATE Nutrition will drive efforts to sustainUSAID technical leadership in nutrition, enhance locally driven nutrition programs and policies, and boostinnovative efforts to share learning and transfer knowledge.

 

Job Summary:

The Technical Officer III will provide technical support to ELEVATE Nutrition’s multi-sectoral nutrition activities. The Technical Officer III will support the technical teams to design and implement activities, draw out contentfor knowledge management and dissemination efforts, and support learning initiatives. They will also contribute to the development of project reports and technical products, among other technical responsibilities.Technical areas may include capacity strengthening, diet quality, wasting, social and behavior change, governance, and cross-cutting initiatives such as the US Government Global Nutrition Coordination Plan. We will aim to match the Technical Officer III’s interests with the project’s needs to the extent possible. Responsibilities:

The Technical Officer III provides technical support and guidance to technical teams during the development and implementation of project activities. Responsibilities include the following.

  • Provides guidance to technical team members andassistspeople and teams to develop, refine, and implement technical activities.
  • Supports technical capacity strengthening for project team and partners.
  • Providessupport to ensure technical groups function efficiently, e.g., helps break down work into steps, setup meetings, shape agendas, take notes, and track follow up action items.
  • Conducts searches and summarizes findings of published literature on relevant technical issues.
  • Develops or writes technical briefs, reports, or other necessary materials such as web content and presentations to facilitate learning, best practices, and evidence and resource uptake.
  • Contributes to creation of technical contentand compilation of evidence for publications and manuscripts.
  • Leads technical project activities or sub-activities, assists with implementation of activities, and monitors project deliverables.
  • Identifies technical expertise needs for activities and supports team engagement to ensure a multi-sectoral approach is maintained throughout project implementation.
  • Contributes to scopes of work for consultants and helps with hiring processes.
  • Contributes to project work planning and budgeting.
  • Supports technical teams to identify and document successful local advancements to contribute to global technical leadership and draft publications and technicalproducts for a range of external users.
  • Supportsdocumentation and dissemination of country-based learning and its inclusion in project learning activities at all levels of implementation.
  • Presentson behalf of ELEVATE Nutrition in webinars, professional meetings, conferences, and working groups.
  • Supports local nutrition leaders to participate in global nutrition events assisting with preparation, e.g., abstract, poster, and presentation development.
  • Provides other support as requested to ensure an efficient and successful project.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • In-depthtechnical knowledge of concepts and practices and experience providing technical assistancein internationalmulti-sectoral nutrition programs in development settings.
  • Proficiency with online search tools.
  • Sensitive to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues in assigned areas.
  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
  • Able to read, write, and speak fluent English. Working proficiency in French preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent demonstrated project management skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with using Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information and prepare reports.
  • Ability to solve problems and implement corrective action as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in nutrition, public health, international development and/or related field.Master’s degree with 6+ years of experienceproviding technical support in nutrition programming at global and/or country level.
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization.
  • Project Management (PM) Certification preferred.

Travel Requirements:

  • 10-25%

 

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidates FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

 

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

 

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $83,000 – $110,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
