BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. The GIS & Remote Sensing Unit within the Analysis, Planning and Performance (APP) division is responsible for enhancing WFP’s geospatial evidence base in support of emergency preparedness and response.
The Geospatial developer will support this effort by developing procedures to automatically gather, process and map such information, especially in maintaining and improving WFP’s Advanced Disaster Analysis and Mapping (ADAM). He/She will contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the existing cloud-based infrastructure and will develop new automatic procedures of geospatial data harvesting and mapping. He/she will directly report to the GIS Development and Innovation Lead.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education:
Master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Geomatics, or equivalent work experience is required.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of increasingly relevant professional experience; OR without a master degree: 6 years of proven working experience in developing GIS applications and systems for large organizations
Languages:
Working knowledge of English (proficiency/level C) is required.
A second UN language would be an asset (preferably French, Spanish or Arabic)
