JOB DESCRIPTION

Result of Service
The result of services is to support the Cool Coalition Secretariat in the overall implementation of the Cool Coalition Workplan and Strategy 2023-24 and contribute to the achievement of its goals and targets towards COP28 and beyond. This will be through a) engaging the partnership on delivery of technical outputs and on commitments, b) preparing outreach and training material on technical content, c) facilitating knowledge exchange on sustainable cooling through design and delivery of events and knowledge products, d) supporting the development of funding proposals

Duties and Responsibilities
UNEP is accelerating the global transition to energy-efficient and climate-friendly cooling. Getting the right solutions in place for cooling is essential for improving the quality of life and health of people without undue impacts on the planet. The UNEP-led Cool Coalition is a global multi-stakeholder network that connects a wide range of key actors from government, cities, international organizations, businesses, finance, academia, and civil society groups to facilitate knowledge exchange, advocacy and joint action towards a rapid global transition to efficient and climate-friendly cooling. The Secretariat of the Cool Coalition is hosted at UNEP. A senior consultant is needed to support UNEP Cool Coalition to develop a holistic methodology for developing a National Cooling Action Plan for the MENA region. The consultant will be also required to deliver capacity building toolkit for the methodology and train environmental and energy officers from the MENA countries. The comprehensive regional NCAP methodology will draw linkages to show how positive impacts of the NCAP help support the country’s national and international commitments (such as the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol).
Qualifications/special skills
Academic Advanced University degree (Masters or equivalent) in Energy Policy, Management/Business, Engineering, Economics, Environmental Sciences, Physics, or a similar discipline is preferable. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least 10 years of professional experience related to energy efficiency, refrigeration, air conditioning and related cooling solutions. o Prior experience working with international stakeholder groups and industry players in the HVAC industry. o Technical understanding of cooling products, environmental and energy impacts of cooling appliances, as well as products development and innovation needed to reduce environmental impacts, is highly desirable. o Experience with stakeholder coordination and project management. o Experience with policy, technical and regulatory aspects of sustainable cooling and the trends of global markets o Proven experience and skills in policy and/or technical report writing and energy modelling to assess emissions
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required.
