This internship is designed to be in person and full-time but can be adjusted based on request by the successful candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is in the Management Advice and Evaluation Section (MAES) of the Office of Under-Secretary-General (OUSG), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The duration is for two months with a possible extension of maximum six months, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. The MAES was established as part of the new Administration of Justice as of 1 July 2009. The Section evaluates complaints against administrative decisions by staff members, and makes recommendations to the Under-Secretary-General for DMSPC on whether to uphold, settle or reverse such decisions. Responsibilities of the internship position encompass the following aspects of MAES’s work. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: • Reviewing and summarizing past MAES recommendations for purposes of a new database digest. • Providing assistance in conducting legal research on issues relating to international public administrative law and other areas required for management evaluations. • Attending and taking notes at meetings as appropriate.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
