Description of the Assignment:

This assignment builds upon current and prior efforts to address dealing with the past issues, including those stemming from previous DPPA-OHCHR mission reports. It also considers recommendations from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), advocacy by victims’ associations and other civil society organizations and academia, as well as the findings and recommendations of missions and consultations conducted by United Nations Principals and human rights mechanisms. Additionally, the assignment will leverage available knowledge and experience within the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and at Headquarters, and beyond the United Nations. Critically, the assignment is to consider the new Secretary-General Guidance Note on “Transitional Justice: A Strategic Tool for People, Prevention and Peace”, adopted in 2023. The new Guidance Note promotes pragmatic, innovative and transformational approaches to dealing with the past.

Period of assignment/services (if applicable): June/July 2024-October/November 2024 (60 working days)
