Result of Service
Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Thematic Support Section, Corruption and Economic Crime Branch, direct supervision of appropriate staff of the Section and in coordination with other consultants as necessary, the result of service expected from the individual contractor is as follows: A. A draft report is edited on the risks associated with organizing major sports tournaments (approx. 25 pages). B. A report is edited of a meeting on linkages between corruption and organized crime groups in sport (approx. 25 pages) C. A draft publication is edited to support criminal justice authorities tackle corruption in sport (approx. 50 pages) At all times, the individual contractor shall provide to UNODC access to intermediate products under the individual contract arrangement. All the outputs should meet the satisfaction of UNODC, as assessed by the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer, according to the following indicators: • Quality of the document produced • Timeliness of delivery • Documents are edited using the editorial rules of the United Nations as a guideline and are in non-technical language • Technical competence • Cooperation with CEB/TSS team.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background of the assignment: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is the guardian of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), the only legally binding universal anti-corruption instrument. The Convention’s far-reaching approach and the mandatory character of many of its provisions makes it a unique tool for developing a comprehensive response to a global problem. UNODC possesses extensive experience and in-depth substantive expertise, delivering and adapting technical assistance to Member States upon request and working with a variety of national, regional and international stakeholders. Moreover, UNODC possesses substantial experience in developing technical tools, and disseminating and facilitating exchange of good practices in the fight against corruption. There is growing recognition that more efforts need to be undertaken and resources devoted to addressing corruption in sport. This has been repeatedly highlighted at the international level , including through the adoption of relevant resolutions by the General Assembly, the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and the Group of 20 Anti-Corruption Working Group. In this context, UNODC is seeking an individual contractor who will support the development of the following documents: • A report on the risks associated with organising major sports tournaments • A report of a meeting on linkages between corruption and organized crime groups in sport • A publication to support criminal justice authorities tackle corruption in sport Purpose of the assignment: The purpose of this assignment is to proofread and edit: • A draft report on the risks associated with organizing major sports tournaments • A draft publication to support criminal justice authorities tackle corruption in sport
Qualifications/special skills
• An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in translation and interpreting, linguistics, English philology, journalism, English language and literature, communications or related field is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. • At least seven (7) years of professional experience in writing, editing, proofreading and publishing is required; • A professional training in journalism or editing is required; • Experience in working with the United Nations Editorial Guidelines is required; • Experience in writing or editing documents for the United Nations, preferably on topics related to the mandates of UNODC and corruption in sport, is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
