Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located within the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) in the Strategic Communications and Public Information Division. The Public Information Assistant (Broadcast Technology Technician) will be based in Bunia, Radio Okapi. The Public Information Assistant (Broadcast Technology Technician) will work under the supervision of the Public Information Officer in Bunia and the Chief of Technical Unit in Kinshasa.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Public Information Assistant (Broadcast Technology Technician) may be responsible for the following duties: • Ensure live broadcasting of Radio Okapi national programs in FM, Internet and DSTV. Ensure broadcasting of Radio Okapi local Programs in FM “decrochages”; Records MONUSCO press conferences, interviews and others related broadcasting programs outside the studio of Radio Okapi. • Provides general office support; responds to information requests and inquiries related to the technical unit; • Sets up and maintains files/records in SharePoint. • Performs administrative services, including preparing, monitoring and processing requisitions, • Provides specialized assistance to Public Information Officers in the production and delivery of communication products and services. • Assists in the updating of the website and social media platforms; Enters data and generates a variety of statistical and other reports from various databases. • . Serves as photographic assistant by producing digital imaging, producing photo prints, and serving as back-up photographer; writes captions for UN photos. • Supports the installation, operation and maintenance of a diverse range of broadcast technology equipment, including, studio transmitter links, FM, MW and SW transmitter systems (30w to 300KW), remote broadcasting equipment including satellite interconnect system and other associated ancillary systems and support equipment. Install, maintain and repair the material and the equipment of production and diffusion; Mixer, recorders, microphones, CD/Card readers, Tuners. • In close cooperation with Mission Communications and Information Technology Section, ensures procedures are followed for the operation and maintenance of studio and radio equipment; ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. The technician ensures that the broadcasts produced for the radio are in high technical quality and that their setting in waves respects the Charter of the radio and technical standard. He should ensure good quality of sounds before broadcasting Contributes to technical input to services related to the planning, implementation and maintenance of broadcast technology projects; • Helps to establish means to monitor non-UN radio and television broadcasts across the mission area and the technical capacity to record and store this material. • Assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies. • Provides support for radio broadcast technology training and support for national broadcast technology staff, and other public information staff requiring familiarization in the use of technology, as necessary. • Coordinates media coverage of events. • Coordinates technical arrangements. • Participates in the planning and coordination of exhibits and special projects; • Liaises with relevant departments/sections; drafts and edits reports, production schedules, press releases and related texts, and correspondence related to the planning and production of exhibits and special projects. • Creates designs for Mission promotional and other uses, e.g., brochures, presentational materials, announcements, and catalogues. • Ensures availability and appropriate packaging of products for distribution at special events such as exhibits, conferences and media functions. • Assists in the production and editing of video/film projects, radio programs or website projects; tracks all production material; • Produces scripts, cue cards, etc., selects and catalogues sound and visual materials for inclusion in productions, and obtains requisite clearances and copyrights; • Coordinates scheduling of commercial and internal production facilities; directs studio recordings and/or evaluates audio quality of recordings for inclusion in programs. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Technical training and certification in radio journalism or broadcasting, communications, public information, or a communications medium is desirable. Computer skills and ability to install and configure, Windows, Microsoft office, Cool Edit, Adobe Audition, Simian, Selector is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressively responsible professional experience in the planning, implementation and management of complex broadcasting projects is required. Experience in broadcast studios on live and production, reporting, computer technology is required. Acoustic experience in field or studio is required. Experience working in the United Nations is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written French is required. Knowledge of English is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
