Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Ombudsman, the Intern may be assigned matters such as: • Analysing anonymised data and statistics on the users of the Office’s services, including identifying trends as appropriate with a view to understanding and improving the working environment at UNRWA by reducing internal conflict. • Identifying and improving methods of collection of data within confidentiality limitations. • Advising on the collection and presentation of data. • Researching and drafting policy documents and standard operating procedures relating to the way in which data is managed by the Office. • Researching, collating and drafting reports on the work of the Office, including but not limited to the annual report. • Presenting findings to colleagues in a creative and engaging way. • Updating the intranet site as appropriate. • Other duties as assigned. On completion of the internship, the candidate will have gained: • Understanding of the work of the Office of the Ombudsman for UNRWA. • Insight into the challenges faced by an organisation in terms of managing and resolving internal workplace conflicts informally. • Experience working in an UN agency in a multicultural context, with a particular focus on data and statistics. • Skills to utilise data and statistics to drive change in an Organisation. • Experience in analysis, reporting and presentation. • Experience in research and drafting internal policy. • An ability to work independently and as part of a small team located across multiple countries.
Qualifications/special skills
Education: Applicants must be students enrolled in, or have recently completed (i.e. commencing the Internship within one year of graduation date), either a graduate school programme (i.e. second university degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). The bachelor’s degree (or higher) must be from an accredited educational institution in the area of public administration, international politics, psychology, law, statistics, data management, conflict resolution or related field. Work Experience: Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, although prior work experience may be an advantage. Excellent IT skills are required.
Languages
Excellent command of spoken and written English. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
