Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is located in the Information Management Unit (IMU) in Information Centre Services (ICS), Countries and Campaigns Operations Division (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The ICS provides substantive, administrative, and technical support to the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) (https://www.un.org/en/department-of-global-communications/worldwide/united-nations-information-centres) IMU is responsible for timely distribution of information to the UNICs. The intern is under the overall supervision of the Chief of ICS and the direct supervision of a staff member in IMU within the ICS. The intern will support the IMU team with daily activities, focusing on data management and communications. The tasks will include: – Assisting with basic data management and analysis – Maintaining and expanding SharePoint Lists with UNIC-related data – Maintaining and expanding Microsoft Power Automate flows designed to automate notifications, SP List items updates, etc. – Updating the internal SharePoint site with relevant information for UNIC colleagues – Researching and gathering information on UNIC activities and other UN offices – Drafting text for communication materials – Reviewing and analysing UNIC activities-related inputs to CIMS (Centres Information Management System), a SharePoint based reporting system – Draft inputs for Secretary-General Reports to the main committees using the data from CIMS database – Perform other tasks as needed
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following four conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must be a student in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D programme. 2. Be proficient in standard office automation equipment (e.g., computer, scanner, printer, etc.) and software systems. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme though it can be of benefit to the office if you have interests, skills and knowledge in the areas below. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. • Keen interest in international affairs, international organizations, management and change • Strong data organization and analysis skills • Proficient in standard software applications • Proficient in Microsoft Power Platform applications • Attention to detail and a passion for researching big-picture issues
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of one or more official United Nations languages is desirable.
