Purpose of the role

The Communications Technical Officer contributes to achieving the goals set out in the Advocacy Strategy and Communications Plan, including taking the lead on thematic and/or donor deliverables, in close coordination with all field teams and in support of advocacy priorities.

This position will plan, coordinate and develop high quality communications products for traditional media, social media, and programs communications in both English and Arabic as appropriate. The Communications Technical Officer will also support in building skills within the field teams to develop quality communications products in line with NRC guidelines and in compliance with donor requirements.

What you will do

  • Contribute to NRC Lebanon’s advocacy, media and communications strategy, including proposing and developing high-quality and well-targeted communication deliverables informed by NRC Lebanon programmes.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in Lebanon and other NRC offices to develop and monitor a communications action plan that reflects use of a variety of different communications products (photos, web stories, NRC Workplace, case studies, online platforms, infographics, videos etc), with the support of the Advocacy Manager.
  • Work closely with media and communications colleagues at the regional level to develop, coordinate and publish communications materials.
  • Undertake regular travel to NRC program locations to gather content (photos, stories, videos) relating to NRC programs, and support program staff with communications-related activities.
  • Support program teams with the development of visibility materials, ensuring these are developed in compliance with NRC and donor guidelines.
  • Direct involvement in support and guidance efforts linked to communication work at NRC Lebanon.
  • Carry out mainstreaming of protection in communication work as per the set NRC’s Protection mainstreaming guidelines, and ensure reporting any breaches/concerns to the line manager for proper action.
  • Ensure that all protection related detected cases are referred to the concerned referral focal point and to the related Protection Coordinator.
  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.

Specifically you will;

  •  Work with colleagues and partners on developing and implementing communication plans in alignment with donor requirements and advocacy priorities.
  • Write and submit social media content to NRC’s regional and global offices from Lebanon that emphasize refugees’ perspectives, voices, and experiences.
  • Ensure a proper coordination with media focal points, and provide the needed support and guidance to ensure proper collaboration.
  • Produce and design digital resources for social media use, such as factsheets, banners, posters, and other contributions as well as liaising with external suppliers to produce materials.
  • Visit field programmes on a regular basis to collect quality photographs, videos, testimonies and write stories about refugees in Lebanon, for external and internal use.
  • Gather content to produce and develop videos and infographics in accordance with NRC’s global style and brand guidelines.
  • Coordinate with both the regional and the head office communications teams.
  • Manage and coordinate content from media focal points in NRC’s field offices.
  • Support the Advocacy Manager with any other communications related tasks.

Professional competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media, or Communications or other related discipline
  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a humanitarian context/sector
  • Proven experience in engaging producing varied comms materials, including film (shooting and editing), audio, photography, fact sheets, infographics and archiving
  • Hands-on experience in social media work
  • Experience in storytelling that is informed by available research and programmatic data and is connected to latest issues
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Good writing and editing skills in Arabic and English
  • Ability to engage different local and regional audiences
  • Knowledge of relevant thematic areas (shelter, wash, education, child protection, legal protection)
  • In-depth understanding of Lebanese context
