About IRRI

 

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

 

Job Purpose

 

IRRI Thailand Office (ITO) needs support of a dedicated communication expert and project manager with excellent English language skills based in Bangkok. It is crucial that the consultant is located in ITO in order to be in direct contact with the Thailand country representative and to be emersed in project activities.

This position will be based in Bangkok, Thailand and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Thailand.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the development of the communication plan/ strategy for IRRI’s climate change mitigation work and the IRRI-Thailand office
    • Develop and implement a communication plan/strategy in a self-initiated way
  • Write/edit articles or documents for information dissemination or documentation
    • Write/edit news, feature stories, or scripts on GHG mitigation research, technologies, people, or events
    • Write/edit documentation, updates, or reports of activities
    • Manage or contribute to the writing/editing/the preparation of project documents, international refereed journals articles, reports, press releases, posters, slide decks, proposals and concepts notes, audit reports, and
      other publications)
  • Develop/produce/distribute print or web-based communication products
    • Produce posters/brochures/videos/exhibit materials and other types of information to support communication
      goals of IRRI/CGIAR and its specific projects
    • Develop/Design information for various products (e.g. web, reports, etc.)
  • Manage a regional climate change mitigation project
    • Coordinate internal resources and project partners for the flawless execution of the project
    • Ensure that all outputs are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
    • Develop a detailed project plan to track progress
    • Coordinate among the project team (based in different countries) to ensure effective implementation of all planned activities and timely submission of progress reports
    • Manage project partners and other project stakeholders to operate in line with national priorities and expectations
  • Support the IRRI-Thailand office
    • Provide communication support (i.e., report writing, documentation, graphic design, video production, and media coordination, among others) for the IRRI-Thailand office’s programs and activities
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in communication, journalism, language or related field with minimum 6 years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated min 6 years of experience and skills in building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders including government agencies; international experience is an advantage
  • Demonstrated minimum 6 years of experience in packaging and disseminating communication materials through different channels
  • Experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, and/or M&E are an asset
