POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Assistant will primarily focus on creating visibility for the “Nature-Based Solutions for Urban Adaptation” (NATURA) project, and GGGI Lao PDR, and supporting knowledge production and sharing linked to nature-based solutions for urban adaptation and green growth. The Communications Assistant will contribute to the design and implementation of impactful audience-focused communication and knowledge-sharing initiatives, contribute to promoting GGGI’s brand and effectively communicating our impact stories both internally and externally through creative and innovative approaches. The Communications Assistant will report to the Knowledge Production and Communications Officer, who leads GGGI Lao PDR’s Communication and Knowledge Sharing Unit.

PURPOSE
  • Assist in the development and implementation of audience-centric communication and knowledge sharing initiatives to enhance and promote the NATURA project and selected engagements of GGGI in Lao PDR as required.
  • Support the development and enhancement of GGGI Lao PDR’s social media accounts and contributing content to GGGI’s website.
  • Assist in the successful implementation of workshops and knowledge sharing events, and support community engagement strategies and communications needs and materials, including information and education materials in Lao and English.
  • Assist in the design, development and execution of research and knowledge production strategies linked to nature-based solutions and assist the development of knowledge products arising from this work.
ENGAGEMENT
  • Support the communication needs of the NATURA project and GGGI Lao PDR country program.
  • Engage GGGI global communication and knowledge sharing team members to share, shape, and deliver effective and impactful communication and knowledge-sharing initiatives and amplify the impact stories of GGGI in Lao PDR, regionally and globally.
  • Support engagement with media outlets to raise the visibility of the NATURA project and GGGI Lao PDR.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to gather information and insights for communication purposes.
DELIVERY
  • Create compelling communication products, including written content (press releases, event write ups, impact stories etc.), visuals (infographics, videos, greeting cards etc.), and multimedia materials, to convey project achievements and impacts.
  • Support and design and delivery of knowledge production and sharing activities, including the undertaking of surveys, evaluations and other data collection, and development knowledge products.
  • Ensure consistent content updates on digital platforms including GGGI’s social media channels in Lao PDR.
  • Assist in covering events by taking photographs, recording interviews, and assisting with event visibility and communication strategies.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational branding guidelines and messaging standards.
  • Support internal communication and knowledge management through SharePoint file maintenance the SharePoint updates.
  • Support the layout of PPT presentations and internal communication materials as per GGGI visual guidelines and standards.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least an undergraduate (bachelor) degree in communications and journalism, or related fields such as design, architecture, publishing, humanities, literature.
  • Preferably at least one year of professional experience in communications, social media, media engagement or design
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and active usage of various social media platforms.
  • Good skill level with the Adobe Creative Cloud tools (especially Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Good experience in designing posts, publications, infographics, videos, communication materials, and others.
  • A keen interest and creativity in using innovative modern technologies to deliver messages.
  • Graphic design and photo editing skills
  • Should possess excellent and open team communication, and a high level of responsiveness to assignment and tasks
  • Excellent Lao language knowledge and good English writing and speaking skills are required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and have a flexible approach to tasks given.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Communications Assistant, GGGI Lao PDR is an X4 grade level in GGGI salary scale. Determination of base salary is subject to candidate’s experience, academic background and internal equity. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision. This is a national position and does not include relocation benefits.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

GGGI Lao PDR’s Communication and Knowledge Sharing Unit manages and leads GGGI’s communications, knowledge production and information sharing initiatives across the country program. This includes substantive knowledge production and dissemination and communications activities on the “Nature-Based Solutions for Urban Adaptation” (NATURA) project, funded by New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), which aims to increase the resilience of urban communities in Vientiane Capital through a range of interventions to improve urban wetland management for urban flood resilience. The Communications and Knowledge Sharing Unit also engages in communications and design activities such as video production and dissemination; development of project brochures and factsheets; publication design, layout and printing; social media engagement and press and media relations and publication. The Communications and Knowledge Sharing Unit engages in raising the profile of GGGI through the implementation of communications strategies and activities. To support this work, GGGI Lao PDR is seeking a Communications Assistant, to support communications and knowledge sharing for the NATURA project.
