The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Senior Communications Specialist – Media and Public Relations (50%) to join our Global Media and Public Relations team in the Communications division.

Purpose of the job:

Our mission is to support central banks’ pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation, and to act as a bank for central banks.

The Representative Office for Asia and the Pacific (Asian Office) in Hong Kong SAR was established in July 1998. By leveraging its location and regional expertise, the BIS Asian Office aims to strengthen the BIS’s role as a financial service provider to the region’s central banks and contribute to high-level policy discussions through research contributions and targeted analytical work to support the evolving needs of central banks in Asia.

In this role, you will contribute to our mission by crafting strategic and effective communications campaigns that increase the global reach and impact of BIS communications. You will support our Asian office with media relations, across a broad range of techniques and channels, in the Asia-Pacific and implement the media and communications strategy for the region.

By joining the Global Media and Public Relations team, you will:

· Work on topics central to global economic and public policy discussions

· Work together with colleagues in the wider communications team, across the bank and with external media partners across time zones, languages and geographies

· Consult with business areas on communications, working in a dynamic and supportive environment.

· Support in shaping and delivering the communications strategy for our Asian office

Responsibilities

· Act as the Bank’s media officer and communications lead for the Asia-Pacific region.

· Coordinate, in close cooperation with the office of the Chief Representative for Asia and the Pacific, the Bank’s media relations and communication campaigns in Asia-Pacific. Creates compelling and impactful content to support the Bank’s media outreach and promote public understanding of BIS activities.

· Find opportunities to strengthen engagement with media, including fostering close relationships with journalists.

· Support media engagements of the Chief Representative in his role as the main spokesperson for the BIS in Asia-Pacific and advises on and supports the development of key narratives and talking points.

· Support media and communications campaigns for the BIS’ senior executives, in the region, travelling as required in the region.

· Monitor relevant publications in the media and provides news analysis across time zones and geographies; contributes to Communications’ global media report; attends meetings at headquarters in Basel, as required.

· Prepare a monthly update to staff on the activities of the Asian office and key regional central bank news. Contributes content for the “Asia Weekly” news digest.

· Develop engaging content and publish content on BIS digital communication channels, as required.

· Support the implementation of the overall BIS communication strategy, as an integrated part of the overall operational strategy in the Asia-Pacific region. Implements the Bank’s communications policies and procedures for Asia.

· In collaboration with colleagues, act as coordinator for the meetings of the Asian Consultative Council Heads of Communications, supporting the meetings preparation and related administration.

· Maintain and regularly update the BIS website and its intranet pages, supporting content publishing as required by Communications during Asian business hours.

Requirements

· University degree in a relevant field, such as economics, communications, journalism, or equivalent work experience

· Demonstrable experience in leading media and public relations campaigns, preferably in an international environment

· Experience in web publishing, social media channels, and/or video communications.

· Very strong and nuanced knowledge of economics, finance and central banking issues.

· A good news sense and knowledge of the media landscape.

· Agile and skilled in using social media and other web-based communication tools, including on the go. Creative and innovative, with an ability to rapidly learn new tools and approaches.

· Outstanding English writing and editing skills. Multilingual skills are desired.

· Strong customer orientation and ability to act proactively to address the needs of business areas and senior executives.

· Dynamic, responsive with highly developed interpersonal skills and track record of collaboration within and across teams.

· Outstanding organisation and time management skills, including the ability to manage projects and work flexibly in a time sensitive environment and across multiple time zones.
