Duties and Responsibilities
Background: Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 140 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. UNDRR thereby focuses particularly on ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach to disaster risk reduction, in raising awareness and engaging representatives of all relevant stakeholder groups in the strategy discussions. The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, in 2022 called for a global effort to ensure that early warning systems protect everyone on Earth by 2027. UNDRR is the co-chair of this initiative and engaged in supporting the initiative through various work streams, including one managed by the Partnerships Branch on increasing understanding and coordination related to ongoing initiatives financing EWS. This consultancy will support the UNDRR Partnerships Branch in this workstream. Duties and Responsibilities: • Develop a global observatory of Early Warning System investments in PowerBi to support decision-making associated with the Early Warning for All (EW4ALL) initiative of United Nations Secretary General (UNSG). • Develop a data collection and management system for maintaining the global observatory. • Assist in archiving and maintaining up-to-date electronic data. • Contribute to the development of other information management products, like data collection templates, maps, dashboards, project briefs, infographics, survey reports, and other monitoring reports, etc. as relevant. • Conduct data analysis on specific indicators (quantitative & qualitative) using appropriate tools (excel, Power BI, etc.). • Coordinates with partners on data and information management efforts. Qualifications/special skills
• A first-level university degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Business Administration, Information Management, Social Science or another related field is required. Additional degree on data analysis, statistics like SQL is desirable. Four years of experience with data sharing, data analysis and dashboard design, including data governance, quality assurance and preservation, qualitative and quantitative data analysis is required; Experience in data collection, cleansing, and visualization systems such as Power BI and Microsoft Office Programs is required; Experience in visualization systems such as Power Factory or VBA is desirable; Experience in using Microsoft 365 for on-line data collection, reporting tools as well as collaborative tools is desirable; Experience in conducting or facilitating online and/or face-to-face training is desirable; Experience in the UN system or any other similar international organization is desirable. Additional certificates on data analysis, statistics like SQL is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required.
