Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will be based in Doha, Qatar under the overall guidance of the Head of the Centre, and direct supervision of the assigned human rights officer. The supervisor exercises close follow up and regular review of the work processes and provides regular advice and guidance. The intern shall support the Centre in Doha in fulfilling its mandate. The responsibilities of the intern will depend on the individual’s background. The selected intern will be able to work in coordination with various human rights officers and staff covering various fields and areas of expertise. Duties and responsibilities of the intern may include but are not limited to: • Support the human rights education and training unit as well as the knowledge management and documentation unit to deliver activities such as organizing meetings, training programs, workshops, and other related tasks. • Assist the unit with database management, collecting, analyzing, and storing data in an organized manner. • Research human rights issues relevant to the mandate of the Centre. • Support in translating documents from English to Arabic and vice versa. • Collect data and information relevant to the work of human rights and perform data entry, including researching and developing of the Center’s information and resource tools and where necessary on areas related to the mandate of the Centre and its activities. • Participate in staff meetings and discussions as well as contributing to administrative tasks such as drafting minutes of meetings, assisting in logistical support for activities such as preparing list of participants, draft papers, preparation of reports and draft concept notes. • Support in the organization and implementation of activities. • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Program, the following conditions must be met, applicants must be: • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent), OR • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). • Education in political science, social science, law, human rights, international relations or any other relevant field. • No work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Please explain how you meet this criterion using examples. • Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
Languages
For this internship, fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required, knowledge of French is an advantage.
