Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Close Protection team of the Panel of experts on Yemen (POEY) within the Safety and Security Section of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary general for Yemen (OSESGY). The Close Protection Officer will be based in Sana’a and will report to the Security Coordination Officer.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Close Protection Officers will be responsible for the following duties: • Advises the Security Coordination Officer on close protection operations. • Prepares mission close protection policy, direction, guidelines and standing operating procedures. • Develops a close protection training programs for all mission close protection staff and, as required, for protected persons (Principals). • Conducts personal protection tactics and techniques training. • Performs resource-mobilization and maintenance duties. • Develops close protection requirements and incorporates them into the mission-budget process. • Operates and maintains close protection equipment. • Supervises the Close Protection Team, where required. • Coordinates with Host Country authorities and other relevant authorities on close protection operations, where required. • Produces security risk assessments for the Panel of Experts, their residence, office and specific activities, recommends risk mitigation measures and supervises the implementation of these measures. • Coordinates and conducts close protection operations for the protected persons while on duty, in accordance with UN personal protection standards. • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Education
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A valid driver’s license is required. A Valid UNDSS Close Protection Officer Certification course (R-CPOC/R-RCPOC) is required. Please upload the valid certificate. Certification from the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Course or the UN ETB course is required. Please upload certificates. A Valid United Nations Firearm Authorization Card is required with validity of not less than 6 months. Please provide details on certification dates and location.
Work Experience
A minimum of eight years of experience with high school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate is required. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in close protection with a national, private or international security organization is required. A minimum of two years of experience in close protection management at least at the level of a close protection team leader with a national, private or international security organization is required. At least one year experience and exposure at the international level and in a conflict or a post conflict environment is required. Experience and proficiency in the use of close protection weapons, communications, surveillance equipment, and vehicles is required. Experience in close protection of one or more principals; static and mobile protection; close protection command post operations; close protection response techniques; conduct of close protection training is desirable. Experience in supporting, coordinating and providing security for a Panel of Experts is desirable.
Languages
English and Arabic are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in Arabic is required, (both oral and written).
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
