Assignment/Activity: The consultant will contribute to an Implementation research project called Integrating Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care into public health facilities with level 2 neonatal intensive care units in Bangladesh. The consultant must comply with the overall Terms of Reference for the consultancy. In particular, She/he will cover the assigned task as planned under this consultation. The consultant will report to Her/his respective supervisor.

Location: Mohakhali, Dhaka

Expected start date of assignment: June 11, 2024.

Duration: 20 days

Scope of Work:

The primary objective of this assignment (consultant) is to provide technical inputs regarding M-SCANU (Mother in SCANU) so that mother can provide immediate kangaroo mother care (iKMC) to babies admitted in SCANU immediately after birth and be with them until discharge. He/she will also contribute to design and develop in setting up the M-SCANU by renovating part of the existing SCANU. He/she will also play a determining role in influencing national policy by advocacy in the National level. A short-term expert consultant is required to complete the aforementioned specific assigned tasks across studies.

Specific Responsibilities:

The consultant should provide intellectual support to the icddr,b team in

• Provides recommendations on setting up new M-SCANUs with all the provisions for mother as a caregiver.
• Provide expert opinion to adopt new design when renovating part of already functional Special Care Newborn Units
• Function as a Master trainer of M-SCANU
• iKMC Advocacy at national level

Expected deliverables:

• M-SCANU Setup in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital
• Provide technical input in the partial renovation of existing SCANU to M-SCANU
• Advocacy at National Level regarding M-SCANU and iKMC

Required qualifications and experience:

• MBBS with Post Graduation in Neonatology (FCPS /MD)
• At least 15 years of experience in Newborn Care
• Senior-level exposure in a Tertiary Level Hospital/ Medical University
