Job Title: Partnerships and Communications Associate

Contract Modality: Service Contract (SC)

Duty Station: Islamabad

UN Women works with the government, civil society organizations (CSOs), academia, the media, and the public and private sectors to address national priorities of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Placing the advancement of women’s rights at the centre of our work and aligning with UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2021- UN Women works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Reporting to Head of Communications and Partnership, the Partnership and Communications Associate works with and provides support to the members of the Comms & partnership Unit in the development and implementation of effective partnership strategy and implementation consistent with UN Women rules and regulations. The Partnership and Communications Associate support in the development and management of UN Women’s strategic partnerships in Pakistan with Government including justice sector institutions, wider stakeholders including private sector, and donors. The Programme Associate works in close collaboration with the partnership focal points in the RO and UN Women HQ as required for technical advice on resource mobilization. Additionally, in support to UN Women Pakistan’s effort to expand the partnership strategy with non-traditional partners, such as private sector, the Programme Associate provides support to facilitate due diligence and development of the Country Office private sector and resource mobilization strategy.

The Partnership and Communications Associate will work in close collaboration with the Operations Unit, Programmme Team, to ensure smooth implementation of the activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Support in the development and management of UN Women’s strategic partnerships especial focus on private sector in Pakistan
  • Engagement with private sector companies guided by Women’s Empowerment Principles framework along with participation in regional and global WEPs related initiatives.
  • Work closely with private partners to set standards such as the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs).
  • Ensure UN Women Pakistan team is fully compliant to partnership standards including Due Diligence for new partners, donor reporting, partnership agreement
  • Encourage partners including private sector to join our global campaigns, which reach mass audiences and are designed to inspire them to action on a range of concerns vital to women and the SDGs.
  • Develop community-impact and purpose-driven initiatives related to the WEPs for selected WEPs signatories.
  • Under the guidance of Head of Partnerships and Communications, support the relationships with key partners; provide substantial technical inputs to senior management’s efforts at the country level to develop new and innovative partnerships.
  • Lead the implementation of the UN Women engagement strategy with companies/ private companies, philanthropic foundations, and financing institutions.
  • Provide guidance and support to UN Women Pakistan office programme teams develop and implement locally tailored corporate partnerships and resource mobilization strategies and initiatives.
  1. Build trust and maintain effective relationships with donors, government stakeholders and networks
  • Determine the partnerships landscape to ensure optimal win-win partnerships for UN Women.
  • Identify and mobilize key strategic partnerships to enhance impact and influence for UN Women’s strategic priorities.
  • Maintain effective relationships with counterparts in other UN agencies, funds and programmes to promote and strengthen coordinated funding support for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
  • Coordinate with Regional office and other relevant UN Women offices for the collection of information and preparation of results-based reports for external constituencies.
  1. Provide coordination support to the Communications Unit in the development and implementation of a coherent communications and advocacy strategy.
  • Provide inputs and background information for the development of the Country Office communication strategy.
  • Provide support to advocacy efforts and campaigns by organizing roundtable discussions, press conferences, and other publicity events and providing inputs to briefing materials and press releases.
  • Develop district case studies of judges, prosecutors and investigators
  • Provide support to programme and other CO staff on UN Women corporate communications guidelines and printing norms.
  • Track and monitor print and social media and report relevant information to senior staff to inform strategy development.
  1. Provide coordination support to the development of CO advocacy materials
  • Identify storylines and achievements within the CO for online and print publications.
  • Draft press releases, articles, key messages, and other advocacy materials.
  • Coordinate the translation, adaptation, or rewriting of information received for the local context; disseminate materials to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the publication of materials for final approval; maintain relationships with printers/ publishers.
  • Maintain library/ database of reference materials, photos, and digital assets of Access to justice programme
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide support on special web/digital/media projects undertaken by the Country Office

Other:

  • Provide support on special web/digital/media projects undertaken by the CO.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Development studies, public relations or related field. etc

Experience:

6 years of progressively responsible communications/ advocacy, and/or business development is required at the national or international level.

  • Experience in gender equality and women’s empowerment is required.
  • Experience with private sector engagement
  • Experience in engagement with private sectors, especially in promoting gender equality, diversity inclusion and human rights in business is an asset.
  • Experience in initiating and managing relationship with government agencies and development partners would be an asset.
  • Experience in handling social media handles
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems is required
  • Experience in the use of a modern web-based ERP System, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable.

Language:

Fluency in English and Urdu, knowledge of local languages will be an asset.

Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.
