JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Financial Strategy, Planning and Control Department (FSP&C) – Financial Reporting & Analysis Division (FR&A) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, Financial Reporting Officer *. This is a full-time position at grade level 4/5.

Purpose:

Part of the EIB Group, the mission of the European Investment Fund (EIF) is to improve access to finance for SMEs and small mid-caps in Europe. We do this by supporting emerging and established fund managers with equity investments and by designing debt financing instruments that share the risk taken by financial institutions when they lend to or invest in small businesses. We bring this support closer to entrepreneurs through our extensive network of partners and financial intermediaries in all EU Member States and associated countries.

Operating network:

You will work under the guidance and supervision of the Head of Unit – EC and Regional Mandates who in turn reports to the Head of Division – Financial Reporting & Analysis. You will cooperate closely with other relevant services inside the EIB Group as well as external auditors.

Responsibilities:

At a level commensurate with your experience and seniority, you will:

  • Prepare the regular financial reports and semi-annual/annual financial statements for the mandates managed by the EIF on behalf of third parties;
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and reliability of financial data when preparing the financial statements or any financial reporting in accordance with the selected General Accepted Accounting Principles including those derived from IFRS or IPSAS;
  • analyze new accounting standards and designing their implementation accordingly;
  • Evaluate, design and implement new products/ new mandate within the unit from a financial reporting point of view;
  • Actively contribute to knowledge sharing and improvements to processes within the team;
  • Manage relationships with the external auditors in the context of the audit of the financial statements and to challenge questions raised during the audits.

Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years and no more than five (5) years of post-graduation (after having obtained your initial university diploma) relevant professional experience at the same level of responsibility, preferably gained in the investment fund or banking sector.
  • University qualification, preferably at postgraduate level, in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a relevant field.
  • Good knowledge of preparing financial statements and any financial report in accordance with the selected Accounting Framework;
  • Very good understanding of the EIF’s mission, procedures, activities, financial instruments and products offered by the EIF is necessary;
  • Sound knowledge of the financial instruments offered by the EIF and their impacts on the applicable accounting framework;
  • Any – or combination – of the following would be considered an advantage:
    • A professional accounting qualification such as ACCA;
    • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Business Object. Knowledge of Certent CDM (IBM Cognos) or other similar tools;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
