Your team

Within the The European Green Sky Directorate, the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) carries out research, innovation and simulation activities to help improve European aviation performance, safety and sustainability, bridging the gap between R&D and operations. The EIH also addresses emerging new technologies as well as deployment of drones and urban air mobility systems.

As a Technology Scouting Specialist, you will contribute to the technological evolution of EUROCONTROL’s Innovation Hub (EIH) by researching, identifying, evaluating and recommending external emerging technologies and partnerships. You will contribute to pilot projects by following up on specific technology and you will build up and consolidate the trend watch for EIH.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Conduct research and analysis to identify emerging technologies, innovation opportunities, trends, relevant to our industry and business needs.
  • Build and maintain a robust network of industry contacts, technology vendors, startups, and academic institutions to identify potential partnerships and collaboration opportunities.
  • Evaluate technology solutions and startups through technical assessments and general industry analysis.
  • Collect feedback from cross-functional teams (working on the 4 Programmes of Innovation Division) to understand business requirements and translate them into technology scouting initiatives.
  • Develop and present comprehensive technical reports and recommendations to senior management regarding potential technology partnerships and opportunities.
  • Follow latest innovation in technology and trends in order to build the consolidated trend watch and share best practices with internal community.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • University degree of 4 years or more in a relevant area (e.g. Engineering, Science, Administration, or related field) followed by minimum 4 years of relevant working experience.
  • Experience in technology scouting, innovation management, or related roles within the aviation domain, technology industry or start up ecosystem.
  • Experience in identifying and developing technology scouting initiatives, partnerships, or investment opportunities.
  • Experience in research and innovation activities, with design thinking experience considered as an asset.
  • Technical drafting skills in English.
  • Analytical Thinking: You apply a methodical approach to complex information.
  • Creativity and Innovation: You are able to develop new methods and foster an innovative climate.
  • Networking: You know how to maintain and expand effective networks.
  • Planning and organising: You know how to plan ahead and adapt as required.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1/C2. The selected candidate will be required to become a basic user of French at level A1/A2 before the end of the probation period.
    The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

Useful information

  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year(s) and it may be renewed up to a maximum of 9 years or converted into an undetermined contract pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. Before being established in the post, he/she will be requested to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • The successful candidate shall be engaged in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
