JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

Performs accounting functions and conducts the theory and practice of recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing data and records of financial transactions. Reviews Country Office financial performance monthly including balance sheet reconciliations and profit & loss activity reviews. Processes and records journal entries. Responds to inquiries and assist in trainings. Reviews general ledger accounts and supporting sub-ledgers and produces various accounting reports. Participates in various accounting projects including external or internal audits, system upgrades, changes to accounting processes or procedures and other projects as assigned.

Accountabilities:

  • Applies accounting principles and practices to a range of accounting and/or other fiscal functions.
  • Supports field programs by conducting live meeting training on financial systems and processes.
  • Reviews and approves Country Office monthly financial reports and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Work may include reconciliation of accounts or reports, examination of various financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to guidelines, and maintenance of subsidiary ledgers.
  • Leads financial analysis projects and closure of accounting records.
  • Manages internal and external audit requests.
  • Independently applies accounting principles and practices to a variety of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting and/or other fiscal functions.
  • Work may include account report development, preparation and reconciliation, collaborating with administrators to develop and operate accounting systems, examination of a variety of accounting documents to verify conformance with internal policies and external accounting standards.
  • Prepares reports and statements requiring interpretation and analysis.
  • This is an advance level position in which the incumbent can perform complex, specialized accounting functions with minimal or no supervision.
  • Addresses new or changing management requests related to audit and fiscal procedures, account structures or reports and accounting systems.
  • Independently resolves issues of moderate to advanced complexity.
  • Responsibilities may extend beyond accounting system maintenance to the solution of accounting problems.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor in communications with both internal and external personnel, including senior management and representatives of outside agencies as required.
  • Addresses inquiries from both internal and external personnel and parties for information and status updates, using judgment to ensure timely responses by appropriate staff members as required.
  • Works independently or as a member of a team on special and ongoing projects.
  • Assists with the gathering, compiling and evaluation of Lease due diligence data.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to department standards, organization policies and procedures including corporate guidelines and best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Apply in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), theories and systems design.
  • Identify problems and changing requirements regarding management needs, auditing and other fiscal procedures, account structures or reports, and accounting systems, along with the responsibility for modifications.
  • Convey concise, comprehensive, and accurate findings on matters of a complex nature in written form.
  • Conclusions and recommendations are based on professional knowledge and judgment.
  • Convey issues of a complex nature in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
  • Demonstrates in-depth understanding of lease standards under ASC 842 / US GAAP, and the organization’s related accounting policies.
  • Reviews data and information for completeness and accuracy using standard guidelines; performs tasks with attention to detail.
  • In-depth understanding of software used to perform day-to-day functions.
  • Uses office software programs, information systems, and office equipment to access, input, and verify standard information.
  • Communicates information clearly to internal and external staff about services, processes, and procedures using prescribed or established guidelines.
  • Utilizes program specific terminology.
  • Working knowledge of relevant computer software (Word, Excel, Power Point, and other business software).
  • Excellent Excel skills required.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization skills and maturity.

Problem Solving & Impact:

  • Resolves and/or develops recommendations for issues and problems having broad impact.
  • Problem resolution may require analysis of policy and procedures.
  • Serves as a resource to others in resolving non-standard issues and problems.
  • Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Limited supervision.
  • No instruction needed on routine work and general instructions with periodic work review given on new work or special assignments.
  • Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations.
  • Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data on matters of moderate importance to the function of the department or which may be sensitive nature.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Experience:

  • 5 – 8 years of accounting experience in public accounting firm or a large company.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and resourcefulness.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Lease software and ASC 842 lease accounting experience required.
  • CPA preferred.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 5-50 lbs.

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidate FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

 

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $70,000 – $95,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
