The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Corporate Services Directorate – Group Digital Office (GCS-GDO), Platforms & Services Department (P&S), Integration Division (INT), Integration Platform Services Unit (IPSU) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) API Management Engineer*.

This is a full-time position at grade 5/6 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

As an API specialist, you will collaborate closely with development teams, guide them in adhering to best practices, and ensure a seamless developer experience. Experience with cloud-based API offerings and a focus on software development are key to success in this role.

You will report to the Head of Integration Platform Services Unit.

Accountabilities

  • Define and implement our enterprise API strategy, elevating our API management capabilities to a higher level of maturity
  • Foster an API-first culture, promote the use of APIs as a primary means of integrating systems and services
  • Define and draft, closely with enterprise architects and development teams, best practices and guidelines for design, development, documentation, automatic testing, and continuous integration and delivery of APIs following Agile methodologies. Provide guidance, monitor adherence to guidelines, and ensure successful API implementation.
  • Contribute to the transition of our API offerings to the cloud, leveraging the benefits of cloud-based API management solutions
  • Ensure an optimal developer experience (DX) by combining our API offerings with intuitive and developer-friendly processes and tools
  • Serve as the API management gateway expert, utilizing WSO2 to bring APIs together and optimize the use. Develop it in collaboration with the enterprise architects and in line with guidelines and industry standards
  • Plan and manage regular and security product patching to ensure that the API Management Platform is up-to-date and to eliminate known vulnerabilities
  • Maintain close contact with the vendor and support provider to anticipate upgrades and evolutions
  • Draft and submit Project Charters to implement new and enhanced API Management functionalities
  • Manage projects to ensure solution delivery within the set schedule, budget and quality objectives, and keep stakeholders informed on the progress, timing and budget

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in Engineering, Information Technology, Information Management or related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in designing and implementing software solutions that use APIs
  • Extensive experience and deep understanding of API management, including hands-on experience in managing API management platforms. Experience in the API Gateway from WSO2 is an advantage.
  • Experience with cloud-based API offerings and transitioning from on-premises solutions
  • Experience in driving transformative changes and implementing APIs
  • Strong technical background with a focus on software development principles and practices
  • Ability to perform hands-on Proof of Concepts (POC) work to assess comprehensively applicability and impact of technology choices
  • Ability to provide clear, concise technical guidance to technical teams while delivering comprehensive status updates to management and business users
  • Knowledge of security aspects of modern application design and associated protocols
  • Good knowledge of project management principles, methods and practices
  • Knowledge of automation and enablement technologies, such as Jenkins, Jira, Git, Nexus, and Azure DevOps
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (*), with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage
