Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is located within the United Nations Liquidation Entity (MINUSMA), Bamako. The Generator Mechanic reports directly to the Chief Operation Unit. S/he is required to supervise all maintenance and construction tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
Within the framework of the Engineering Section/Unit, the Generator Mechanic will perform the following duties: • Represent Engineering Section during the refueling of generators. • Record generator operating hours after each periodic maintenance. • Check battery electrolyte specific gravity by using a hydrometer. Carry out physical inspection of fluid levels (Engine Coolant, Diesel Fuel, etc.); • Maintain records of all generator’s spare parts in the workshop mini store. • Control all the workshop tools, batteries and lubricant signed for and kept in the mini stores. • Keep an accurate record of all repairs and maintenance done on generators. • Assist in carrying out periodic and preventive maintenance of all generators within the mission operational areas as required. • Prepare material requests for the signature of Officers coming from the Team Sites. • Implements all safety and environmental codes and practices relating to repair and testing of construction works assigned. • Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Perform other duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Job – Specific Qualification
Technical or vocational certificate in construction trade is desired. A valid national driving license is desirable. Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and databases is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in power generation field is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 3 years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in French is required; and knowledge of English is a desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
