BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The WFP Technology Division (TEC) is the nervous system of WFP, connecting staff with each other and with our beneficiaries, donors and partners. Running all vital IT systems, TEC serves as the main driver for continuity of operations, efficiency gains and innovations that empower staff globally to effectively implement the Strategic Plan. Within TEC, the Business Relationship Management (BRM) team plays a key role in the digital transformation of WFP by partnering with all parts of the organization in order to identify gaps, set priorities, improve user experience, and scale up digital approaches that enhance business efficiency and operational impact.

As part of WFP’s objective to transform key business areas digitally and continue the focus on data for decision making, the Senior Business Engagement Manager (BEM) – Operations Department Portfolio will primarily manage the Technology team’s relationship with the Supply Chain and Emergency divisions under Operations department and associated functions, shaping their demand for technology to create a more efficient and effective organization. This portfolio is particularly important now, as WFP deals with the topic of Assurance at corporate level, and the Supply Chain Division initiates key projects and activities to address such gaps and reform the day WFP deals with food. The Senior BEM will build a deep understanding of these business areas, building trust through relationships with both operational and executive-level contacts to ensure that essential projects are prioritized and scheduled. The Senior BEM will work under the general supervision and guidance of the Chief, TECE with functional reporting to the Head of Business Engagement Unit.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, manage and support Supply Chain activities, Emergency divisions and other teams as needed.
  • Develop a deep understanding of evolving business models, in line with technology investment, updating the relevant Digital Business Roadmap.
  • Manage and provide support for the creation of a global picture of demands and field needs in the area of Supply Chain, with a view to establishing regular Business / TEC planning processes and optimize solutions’ delivery and resources utilization.
  • Facilitate and ensure alignment between Business and TEC strategic directions, including business forward-visions, projects, the I&T strategy, the Data Strategy, and ensure they come together and support field needs.
  • Understand new technology trends, forecast future requirements and guide business strategies to include a digital dimension.
  • Follow the technology development taking place outside of the Technology division (TEC) in these teams to ensure all is registered and abiding by the framework for software development, support and maintenance.
  • Thoroughly understand existing TEC solutions and articulate their value to these business areas. Understand and communicate relevant new products, features and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with other Business Engagement Managers in Regional Bureaus and in Headquarters to ensure an integrated, coherent approach to the technology / data used across portfolio.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Global picture of supply chain needs and demands on TEC is developed and presented by end 2024.
  • The business meets with TEC senior leadership on a quarterly basis and sees TEC as a credible partner to their work.
  • Key, legitimate development is scheduled.
  • High level processes are mapped, alongside key technology used.
  • Interdependencies between assigned business areas are clear, along with interactions with processes from other portfolios.
  • Assigned business areas are clear what it means to be “digitally transformed” and are committed to building on WFP’s digital core.
  • Collaboration across the BEM and TEC team. Key member of a well functioning team.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

  • University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Psychology or related field.

Experience:

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in a supply chain role, general management and/or project management. Experience in another finance and/or technology related functional area will be an advantage.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Innovative approach to increase internal & external knowledge;
  • Collaborative hands-on team member and relationship-builder with a facilitative nature and strong business partnering skills towards colleagues and stakeholders; Strong project management skills, excellent interpersonal, communications and presentation skills to senior management on progress of project;
  • Experience in the implementation and support of SAP/ECC Finance modules, their integration and the related financial reporting tool;
  • Ability to prioritize and drive sound business decisions;
  • Good knowledge of technology;
  • Ethics & Values, Client Orientation, Cognitive Capacity, Stress Resistance, Behavioural Flexibility;
  • General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration is an asset.

Language:

Fluency in oral and written English with an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
