Position Brief
Researchers at IFPRI, the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, and the Universidade Pedagogica in Mozambique are seeking an experienced qualitative research consultant to work on qualitative data collection in conjunction with an evaluation of World Vision’s school meals and literacy programming (Unlock Literacy) in Nampula and Zambezia provinces, Mozambique. Data will be collected and analyzed from parents, students, teachers, and other stakeholders to understand the context, background, program impact and pathways of program impact.
Position Detailed Description
The objective of this project is to analyze the effects of community interventions to enhance the sustainability and resilience of school meals in rural Mozambique. IFPRI will be collaborating with World Vision to conduct a randomized controlled trial that includes 157 primary schools.
There will be two interventions. In the first, World Vision will establish and assist farmer groups who will supply a proportion of the food they produce to the local school to enhance school meals. In the second treatment, the Centre for Learning and Capacity Building for Civil Society (CESC) will build the capacity of community members to advocate for school meals and other services from the government.

Consultancy Duration
The consultancy will be of a duration estimated to be 25 and 30 days, between June 28 and August 31, 2024.
Qualifications
-Bachelors’ degree in education, economics, sociology, or related social science field
-Experience in qualitative data collection and qualitative analysis
-Fluency in Macua and Portuguese, with the ability to interact with respondents in other Mozambican languages
-Proficiency in speaking and writing English
-Able and willing to conduct fieldwork in rural Nampula and Zambezia provinces
Preferred Qualifications
-Masters’ degree in education, economics, sociology, or related social science field
-Experience in qualitative data collection around questions of school meals and community engagement
-Fluency in English
Deliverables
Deliverables will be finalized in conjunction with the successful candidate depending on experience and availability but will include a summary of analysis findings to be incorporated into the project’s baseline report.
