IFC’s ESG Sustainability Advice and Solutions Department (CEG) works closely with investment, advisory, and upstream teams and clients to identify, evaluate, and manage environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) risks and opportunities. We partner with industry and other stakeholders to find innovative solutions that unlock opportunities for economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable private investment—which, in turn, contribute to jobs and inclusive growth.
The Advisory, Knowledge and Learning (AKL) unit supports IFC’s networks and thought leadership initiatives. Under its Network and Thought Leadership (NTL) team, AKL leads primary research, develops thought leadership materials and fosters global networks geared at the adoption of good international industry practices on ESG. NTL contributes to placing IFC at the pinnacle of ESG thought leadership.
The NTL team is recruiting a highly motivated extended-term consultant (ETC) to support CEG by developing and implementing effective communication strategies geared at amplifying advocacy in the ESG space.
Duties and Accountabilities:
• Develop a departmental strategic communications plan geared at ramping up IFC’s visibility in the ESG space externally and oversee its implementation.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase the visibility of ESG initiatives internally and to foster IFC’s “ESG Community of Practice” in a decentralized environment.
• Coordinate the development of, in liaison with subject-matter experts, pitchbooks, case studies, story boards videos, human-interest stories, blogs, profiles to communicate effectively externally and internally, as well as suggest other communication mediums to communicate in an innovative manner.
• Identify communications opportunities, including coordination with external media outlets and platforms to shape and place content on how IFC leads and supports excellence in ESG practices throughout emerging markets.
• Work with IFC internal teams and experts, as well as with external strategic partners, to develop content and capture thought leadership insights, and insights on emerging topics in the ESG field.
• Work with IFC development partners funding ESG initiatives to develop effective communications plans and branding strategies to increase the visibility of advisory services programs that integrate the visibility of development partners.
• Develop and produce publication-ready content related to ESG and sustainability in emerging markets – including IFC thought leadership – using a variety of formats/mediums and for internal and external audiences.
• Develop strategies for increasing CEG’s internal and external communications reach.
• Ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy of communications materials.
• Actively support CEG’s presence in the general media.
• Design and execute social media campaigns by managing the IFC Sustainability LinkedIn and by exploring opportunities to cross-promote on other social media channels to increase visibility and foster a better understanding of IFC’s ESG initiatives.
• Produce and edit digital products as needed, including social media packages, press releases, op-eds, talking points, blogs, and videos/multimedia products, ensuring that products are prepared and issued on time and to a high-quality standard.
• Develop an “ESG key themes and developments” tracking approach for trend monitoring to stay abreast of current and emerging ESG themes and ideas for knowledge products and provide a quarterly update to relevant internal audiences.
• Monitor and raise any potential matters that could cause reputational risks to IFC’s brand among various audiences.
• Build a close working relationship with IFC Communications to ensure that all ESG messages are aligned with the overall corporate narrative on advancing private sector development to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet.
Selection Criteria
• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (business administration, economics, sustainability, communications, marketing, etc.) with 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in communication mediums and channels with proven ability to effectively operate through different communication channels, including media and social media.
• Outstanding analytical skills and proven ability to develop and advise on communication strategies.
• Excellent English oral and written communication skills, including communicating and presenting clearly and concisely verbally and in writing. Fluency in Spanish or French, a plus.
• Outstanding organizational/time management skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a diverse, team-oriented environment.
• A detail-oriented approach and the ability to take initiative.
• Experience in preparing communication materials on ESG, a plus.
• Familiarity with IFC business, procedures, and branding, and WBG editorial guidelines, a plus.
