Background
This position is located within the UN Women Department of Management and Administration, Office of the Security & Safety Services Section. The Security and Safety Mainstreaming and Humanitarian Liaison Consultant reports directly to the UN Women Global Security Advisor. The role will be homebased, with a possible requirement for the consultant to travel. UN Women has completed the update and initial roll out implementation of Security and Safety Mainstreaming. This consultancy, will continue embedding Security and Safety mainstreaming through knowledge accross the organization, as well as further implement and update changes to align with new UN Security Management System (UNSMS) policies, Security Risk Management (SRM) challenges, both UN and UN Women Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) incorporation, and changes to UN Women programmatic processes. As UN Women’s humanitarian footprint increases, the consultant will be required to align processes and practices to ensure they are both adequate and coordinated for this function, through both internal and external liaison with humanitarian sector partners. |
Duties and Responsibilities |
In line with the approved UN Women Security & Safety Services Section Biannual Work Plan (BWP); the Security and Safety Mainstreaming and Humanitarian Liaison Consultant, will support and assist the review and update the initiative, synthesizing the already developed tools and processes, whilst preparing as required improvements in response to organizational needs. The Security and Safety Mainstreaming and Humanitarian Liaison Consultant will assess existing outputs to assist in the development of a coherent internal strategic communications strategy for Security and Safety in the organization. The consultant will collaborate efforts within the UN Security Management System (UNSMS) and UN Women programme division initiatives.

II. Assist in ensuring that UN Women Security and Safety Mainstreaming is aligned with the UNSMS, OSH and UN Women procedures and policies under the guidance of the UN Women Security Advisor. IV. Collaborate and support the coordination with the wider UN Security Management System (UNSMS) as an integral member of UN Women Security and Safety Services. The focus of which, will be toward facilitating the identification, development and delivery of specific gender orientated security information and coordination platforms. V. Support the review, identification and development of a coherent internal strategic communications strategy for Security and Safety within the organization. Utilizing the previously developed Strategic Communications Plan, to identify tangible deliverables, assist in the development of an implementation strategy together with communications products, to increase security awareness among UN Women personnel, to embed mainstreaming as a mandatory process. Required Skills and Experience |
Master’s degree or equivalent in in security risk management, international relations or media/communications, security information management, political science, social sciences or related discipline. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in security, safety, political science, international relations, communications, or related field. Advertisement
A knowledge of the United Nations Security Management System and knowledge of established UN Women processes and or security mainstreaming concepts is an advantage. Whilst a knowledge of security and safety as a mainstreaming process will be considered an asset. Language Requirements: Written and oral fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset. |
