Job Purpose and Organizational Context
This position is located in the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Islamabad, working closely with the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RC/HC) and the United Nations Information Center (UNIC).
OCHA is part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA’s mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions.
The United Nation Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Pakistan is committed to supporting the Government of Pakistan as it responds to the Humanitarian needs and its global commitments around the SDGs. The incumbent reports directly to the UNOCHA Deputy HoO in close coordination with UNIC Director and RC/HC.
Duties and Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:
- The Digital Content Creator creates and regularly posts visually captivating multimedia content for social media about the work and goals of the United Nations in Pakistan.
- Conceptualizes, films and edits video content (e.g. short videos, Instagram Reels, Facebook / Instagram stories) about the activities of the UNOCHA, the Resident Coordinator and of the UN in Islamabad and across Pakistan.
- Creates and manages visual content and provides community management support for UN in Pakistan’s digital platforms, including the accounts of the Resident Coordinator and the UN in Pakistan.
- Contributes in managing UN in Pakistan’s communities on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok. This includes assisting in monitoring and
replying to comments and messages from followers, under the supervision of the -Deputy Head of Office and developing hashtag strategies.
- Advises on ways of engaging a wider audience in view of expanding the reach of the UN’s social media presence in Pakistan, in particular among youth.
- Maintain engagement with potential digital allies such as celebrities, digital influencers, and partners from the development, public and private sectors, in view of increasing outreach and engagement on all platforms.
- Supports the development of engaging visual and video content around campaigns and key moments linked to climate change, gender equality, misinformation, sustainable development.
- Supports the development of the Digital Communication editorial calendar together with the Digital Media Assistant.
- Supports the promotion of content in Meta Business Suite and other related and social media business management platforms.
- Performs other functions and special duties, as required by the UN in Pakistan.
Key Results Expected
- Video Filming and Editing: Create engaging and visually appealing video content for various digital platforms. This includes filming and editing raw footage, adding effects, transitions, and soundtracks to produce high-quality videos, with a focus on Reels (horizontal format).
- Photography: Capture images that effectively convey our brand message and engage our audience. This includes taking and editing photos and ensuring consistent visual aesthetics.
- Writing: Develops short texts and captions to accompany digital media assets. This may include captions, blog posts, and social media posts that resonate with our target audience.
- Digital Media Influencer: Leverage your own digital media presence and network to amplify our brand message and reach a wider audience. This includes collaborating with influencers and thought leaders to create impactful content.
- Creativity and Dynamism: Bring fresh ideas and creative concepts to the table to enhance our digital media strategy. Stay updated on the latest trends and innovations in digital media to ensure our content remains relevant and engaging.
- Digital Trends: Monitor and analyze digital media trends and consumer behavior to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement. Apply insights to optimize our digital media strategy and content performance.
- Independent Work: Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and efficiently in complex settings with minimal supervision. Take ownership of projects from conception to execution, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables are of the highest quality.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including marketing, communications, and design, to align digital media content with overall brand objectives and campaigns.
- Relationship Building: Build and nurture strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and influencers to maximize collaboration and engagement opportunities.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiently use photo and video editing software such as Photoshop and Premiere to create polished digital media assets. Familiarity with social media analytics tools like Google Analytics and Facebook Insights is an asset.

Required Skills and Experience
Education
- At least bachelor’s degree in social sciences or equivalent, in related field of, Media Relations, International Studies, Design, Journalism, or Communications or related field.
Experience and Skills
- At least two years of experience with digital media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok) and/or video production along with bachelor’s degree is required.
- No experience is required with master degree.
- Experience with filming and editing video content for social media platforms with the use of graphics, sound and postproduction applications. (Attach links to content created for personal social media platforms or for other people or organizations’ platforms for verification)
- Experience engaging audiences through effective management of social media channels and tools.
- A significant number of followers on social media is an asset. (Attach link to personal social media platforms for verification)
- Experience of building and maintaining effective networks and partnerships in the media, private sector, entertainment sector or development sector is desirable
- A strong visual storyteller, the digital content creator will be a highly creative individual with vision, and hands-on video and multiple media production skills.
Other Skills and Requirements
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and experience in handling social media platforms, web-based management systems, requirements is desired.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English and Urdu languages is required.
