Your responsibilities

As a Project Monitoring & Control Officer you will join the Accelerator & Technology Directorate Office (ATS-DO). Your team will be the Monitoring & Control Office, within the Planning section of the Project office of HL-LHC.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project.

The HL-LHC Project is a major upgrade of the LHC accelerator, increasing the integrated luminosity. Making use of cutting-edge technologies for the accelerator’s main elements, the project foresees also significant expansion of underground infrastructure.
Work is structured in 19 work-packages (WP) of budget ranging from some millions to some hundreds million CHF. Collaborations with European and international institutes cover a considerable part of the scope.

The position presents opportunities for learning and implementing Project management tools and processes in the exciting framework of one of the largest accelerator technologies projects in the world, in a truly international environment.

In this position, you will:

  • be the link-person to several of the work-packages of the project;
  • structure planned activities in EVM;
  • work on cost change management, reprofiling of expenses and projecting real cost against planned cost with a general view on the WP situation and changes;
  • prepare financial analysis, schedule analysis, minutes and EVM metrics interpretation.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Accounting, budgeting, project management and engineering, financial analysis.
  • Specific previous experience in budget management and knowledge of project management tools will be an asset.
  • You will show a passion for complexity; rigor and precision; excellent self-management and sense of responsibility; strong interpersonal skills and written and oral communication in English.
  • Fluent in both English and French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Economics, engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
