International Specialist in Water and Sanitation

Location: Lima, Peru

About this position

We are looking for a motivated Water and Sanitation professional to improve people’s lives in Peru. As a Water and Sanitation specialist, you will work on monitoring and supervising the execution of operations (grants, loans, and technical cooperations), the development of knowledge products, and the promotion and development of new projects in the areas of water supply, sanitation and wastewater treatment, water resources management, urban stormwater drainage systems, and urban solid waste management.

You will work in the Water and Sanitation Division (WSA) of the Infrastructure and Energy (INE) Department. This team is responsible for conceptualizing, preparing, supporting the execution, and supervising the IDB’s operations related to water and sanitation. We seek to ensure universal and sustainable access to high-quality water, sanitation, and solid waste management services to contribute to the sustainable economic growth of our member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and a better quality of life for their citizens. WSA works with the country departments to design and implement country and regional financial and non-financial programs and projects and evaluates the development results of such interventions. It also performs quality improvement functions for social development projects and programs, including guiding, crafting and preparing Bank products, execution, and analysis and mitigation of risks.

What you will do

You will actively participate in all knowledge management activities of the Water and Sanitation Division, such as:

  • Identify, prepare, and analyze from a technical perspective financing requests for projects with and without sovereign guarantee and technical assistance in water resources management.
  • Identify, prepare, and participate in the development of complex studies and strategies in the aforementioned area.
  • Lead/participate in the execution and supervision of projects and activities in the same field.
  • Provide technical advice in the areas of specialization and other related activities of the Bank to borrowers, country offices, and governmental and non-governmental agencies.
  • Participate as a member of multidisciplinary teams in the conceptualization and development of innovative technical, institutional, and financial responses to the needs of national, regional, and local governments as well as private companies.
  • Collaborate/lead project teams and review quality control activities regarding project proposals.

What you’ll need

  • Education: Master’s degree or post graduate degree in Civil, Sanitary, Hydraulic, Fluid Mechanics, or Water Resources Engineering, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in the development and implementation of projects in the areas of water resources management. Solid technical background in water resources modeling and infrastructure planning; experience in sectoral policy and participatory planning at the basin level. Additional experience in water and sanitation projects and urban stormwater drainage is desirable.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and one of the other Bank official languages (English, French or Portuguese) is required.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48 member countries. We can assist with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You do not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration:

  • Contract for international or national staff, initially 36 months, renewable by mutual agreement.
