The Opportunity

Plan International in Somalia/Somaliland implements programmes that focus in particular on child protection, influencing and advocacy, education, and youth economic empowerment, in addition to providing capacity building and working with as well as through partners such as local NGOs, fellow INGOs and the relevant governments in Plan’s areas of expertise.

Plan International Somalia aims to continue to build its annual budget portfolio to reach vulnerable and excluded children, particularly girls every year, with high-quality gender transformative programs and influencing work that delivers long-lasting benefits. The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying funding opportunities aligned with program and influencing strategic priorities, coordinating of writing and submission of winning funding proposals, forming strategic partnerships for fundraising and submission of competitive bids, and strengthening systems and processes for effective grant management, as well as management of the relationship with donors and Plan’s National Offices (in donor countries)

The purpose of this role is to lead the growth and diversification of the income portfolio for Plan International Somalia in line with the priorities and to implement and/or shape the country’s resource mobilization strategy. The incumbent will be responsible to expand and diversify the institutional donor portfolio as well as the corporate donor base. The post holder will work proactively with National Offices (NOs) within the Plan Federation, to identify and win appropriate grant awards by ensuring the timely and quality delivery of successful proposals and building the capacity of team members in the development of strong quality proposals.

The post holder will be a member of the Country Leadership Team (CLT) on grants management-related country activities. S/he will report directly to the Country Director. The post-holder will be based in the Hargeisa office with extensive travel to Nairobi, Mogadishu, and Plan’s offices in donor countries (NOs). S/he will uphold Plan’s Core Values and promote Plan’s Purpose and programme principles (transparency, gender equality, and diversity) to enhance the programme’s impact.
