Job Overview/Summary: The Finance Specialist assists the Texas Finance team in accurately controlling and managing the implementation of accounting systems with a primary focus on supporting the IRC in Dallas, Texas. The Finance Specialist provides internal and external partners with timely, accurate and understandable financial information and reports.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with IRC’s accounting policies and procedures, as well as generally accepted accounting principles and donor requirements, for both the office and donors.
  • Coordinate the implementation of IRC’s internal control procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets.
  • Support daily financial activities:
  • Prepare entries and approve invoice journals,
  • Invoice and report on Accounts Receivables,
  • Resolve journal entry discrepancies.
  • Assist in month-end/year-end closing tasks:
  • Prepare monthly billing with review of account transactions to ensure accurate coding and completeness,
  • Produce variance analysis report,
  • Reconcile accounts.
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive understanding of donor policies, regulations, and procedures, and share this knowledge with the programs team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Preferably a bachelor’s or associate degree in finance, or equivalent professional experience
  • in a non-profit setting
  • Strong commitment to ensuring the success of the IRC mission while adhering to the values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality as defined in the IRC Way
  • Solid computer-based accounting skills, including spreadsheets and other financial related software programs.
  • Proficient in general office software programs like MS Word, Excel, email, and internet
  • Proven track record to work as a team member in a cross-cultural environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Ability to optimally work with remote teams through telephone, email, videoconference, and other methods of correspondence
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken
