Your team

Within the Network Management Directorate, “Technology” develops and maintains NMD’s mission-critical systems, including all NM ops systems, the related communications facilities and technical infrastructure, and supports the Agency’s IT solutions and services (excluding Maastricht Center).

As a Cloud Architect, you will develop and maintain architecture artefacts for hybrid cloud infrastructures, design and facilitate cloud migration strategies to support EUROCONTROL’s business objectives aimed at enabling and modernizing aviation in Europe.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • To lead and coordinate architecture activities related to cloud technologies within the “Technology“(TEC) domain.
  • To develop and coordinate architecture roadmaps, define and implement cloud migration strategies/plans in line with the TEC I&T strategy and transformation plans.
  • To collaborate closely with the IT architects, IT operations, Information Security and service providers’ teams to build cloud services solutions leveraging modern technologies.
  • To oversee cloud governance interactions and ensure integration with the TEC architecture governance.
  • To analyse technical requirements, evaluate problems/constraints and identify opportunities to build fit for purpose technology solutions.
  • To create awareness and promote cloud technologies and service offerings, facilitate adoption of cloud computing.
  • To continuously research and assess new cloud service offerings and evolution of cloud-computing technologies and provide recommendations and subject matter expertise regarding cloud trends, technology, tools and services.
  • To carry any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completed university degree of 4 years followed by 5 years of relevant working experience OR completed university degree of 3 years followed by 6 years of relevant working experience.
  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Microsoft AZURE Cloud Certification is required. Cloud Architect credentials such as AWS or Microsoft Azure Solution Architect would be an asset.
  • Experience with cloud computing, virtualization and containerization technologies.
  • Knowledge of automation and DevOPS methodologies.
  • Knowledge of fundamental networking, security, and systems engineering concepts.
  • Understanding of infrastructure as code solutions, cloud provisioning and automation tools.
  • Technical writing skills (English).
  • Analytical thinking: You apply a methodical approach to complex information.
  • Problem Solving: You know how to solve complex problems and provide effective solutions.
  • Communication: You are able to foster two-way communication.
  • Result focus: You ensure achievement of shared goals.
  • Customer focus: You adapt services to respond to customer needs.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1/C2. The selected candidate will be required to become basic users at level A1/A2 of French before the end of the probation period. The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 5 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed up to a maximum of 9 years or converted into an undetermined contract. Before being established in the post, the selected candidate will be requested to provide certified copies of their degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • Internal candidates
    If selected, the person will keep their current type of appointment duration (undetermined or determined).
    The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
