The Global Green Growth Institute internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. The CAID unit at GGGI Headquarters in Seoul supports activities related to climate change adaptation and knowledge management. Tasks include reviewing National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) submitted to the UNFCCC, conducting research on climate change adaptation and resilient green growth, and preparing related knowledge products. The unit also participates in meetings and workshops to gain insights from stakeholders. Additionally, they contribute to project implementation, ongoing research, and the preparation of reports, policy papers, presentations, and briefing materials.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the Climate Action and Inclusive Development (CAID) Unit at the GGGI Headquarters in Seoul to support activities under Climate Change Adaptation work stream and perform a range of activities related to knowledge management and general support tasks.

The assignment will include the followings but not limited to:

• Assist the project team in conducting review and assessment of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) that have been submitted by countries to the UNFCCC. Assessment will include checking the consistency of the NAPs and identifying best practices and guidelines;
• Conduct research activities on climate change adaptation and climate resilient green growth to support the preparation of knowledge products and information material;
• Participate in and assist any meetings and workshops organized under the adaptation workstream with a view to gaining understanding and insights from other stakeholders;
• Contribute to GGGI’s project implementation, support ongoing research, and, writing reports, policy papers, preparing presentations for workshops with international participations and producing research briefs and other briefing materials in the field of green growth and climate change adaptation;

The selected candidate will be guided and supervised by a team of experienced economists, with the main objective being that the candidate learns as much as possible during the internship and supports the team in the execution of the projects.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for an internship, candidates must:

• Who are enrolled in Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months;
• Studying in the field of environmental economics, environmental engineering, environmental policy, environmental/sustainability studies, international development, international cooperation, economics, social sciences or other related field; and
• Have previous experience in conducting research, drafting reports, and writing scientific journal articles.

QUALIFICATION

• Experience on conducting research and systematic literature review in the fields of environmental/climate economics, low carbon development, climate resilience/adaptation, green economy, or other related fields;
• A strong, clear understanding of low carbon growth and climate resilient development challenges and opportunities, as well as global trends related to low carbon and climate – resilient growth; direct knowledge of or experience in low carbon and climate- resilient growth activities is an added strength;
• Having excellent English communication skills, particularly writing and/or editing experience in one or more fields related to green growth, preferably in a policy context. Proficiency in Spanish and/or French is an asset; and
• Having good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds and time zones.

SELECTION PROCESS

• Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
• GGGI evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa if necessary. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.

Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
