Responsibilities:

The office works to serve the needs of the region and its activities are integrated into the work programs approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). UNEP´s Sub-Regional Office for the Southern Cone of Latin America, located in Montevideo, Uruguay, provides support to and coordinates efforts with the Governments of Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Within its programmatic growth, the Sub regional Office has increased its commitment to governments and other interested parties, to deepen its analysis of the environmental challenges and opportunities that the sub-region is currently facing. In this context, the focus is on the implementation of UNEP´s Medium-Term Strategy (2022-2025) that addresses the triple planetary crisis of climate change, loss of biodiversity and pollution. The Sub-Regional Office is well positioned to inform UNEP’s corporate policies and plans, through the experiences and lessons learned from working in the 4 countries of the Southern Cone. To achieve its purposes, the Sub-regional office requires an Intern to support Chile´s UNEP portfolio.Interns are sought for a six-month internship period. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Office. The intern will be oriented to support the projects and initiatives portfolio of UNEP in Chile, in particular: ? Support the programmatic approach of UNEP, aligned with the Medium-Term Strategy (MTS 2022-2025), in projects and initiatives in the country. ? Participate in the Workgroups in which UNEP is part, specifically within the United Nations Country Team in Chile. ? Support the initiatives of UNEP in the technical and political dialogue with governments institutions and non-government institutions in the country. ? Monitor the schedules defined of the projects and initiative in which UNEP has collaboration. ? Cooperate to carry out analysis and research, reports, briefings, and presentations, including the design of virtual or face-to-face dialogues, events, and seminars. ? Collaborate with the communication strategy of the Subregional office in matters related to UNEP campaigns and initiatives in the country. ? Provide support in the elaboration of communications, letters, workplans, information material, meetings overview, mission reports and technical notes. ? Support project development and implementation by gathering relevant information and data. ? Support other activities of the Subregional Office with focus in Chile as requested.

Requirements:

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); OR have graduated with a university degree. b) Be computer literate in standard software applications (MS Office) c) Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; d) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views e) Final year undergraduate or master’s degree student in environmental policy, climate change, natural resource management, development, international relations, or related fields of studies preferred. f) No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and writing English and Spanish are required, since work will require research and communication, including reading and interviews, in both languages. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable
