Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 450 banks, insurers and investors. For over 28 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI promotes sustainable finance and helps the financial industry align with and contribute to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals. UNEP FI, in particular the Principles for Responsible Banking and the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) convened by UNEP FI, needs a consultant to support the development of data management systems and data analysis requirements and currently does not have the relevant professional expertise and resource internally. Specific tasks and responsibilities: The consultant will provide assistance in the following project/tasks for UNEP FI’s data management and analysis work: 1. Data Transformation: Transforming the format and structure of datasets, cleaning, and enriching them for streamlined and sustainable integration into our data ecosystem. For example, supporting NZBA Targets Collection dataset transformation. This ensures our data is organized and of high quality. 2. Supporting a more sustainable solution: Support the development of proposals for next steps and for expanding the scope of the data management system, including support the procurement of a product that will host the Central Information Management System. 3. Solution Testing: Conducting evaluations on developed solutions to ensure quality assurance and to facilitate better adoption by end-users. This will involve identifying areas for improvement to meet user needs and project standards. For example, testing portal functionalities. 4. Research: Gathering valuable insights about cutting-edge tools, technologies, and developments that might benefit the project. For example, researching new ools and their use cases. This is aimed at keeping the project at the forefront of innovation and efficiency. 5. Data Analysis: Interpreting and visualizing data to discover patterns and extract insights that aid in strategic decision-making. For example, developing framework and alliance-focussed membership dashboards. 6. In-project Knowledge Management: Creating documentation, training sessions, and other materials to ensure essential project information is well preserved and accessible. For example, tool guidance documents, Expected action trail etc. This helps in maintaining project continuity and enhancing team capabilities. 7. Other Project Support Tasks: Taking on ad-hoc responsibilities as identified and deemed important by the project lead. These tasks support the project’s evolving needs and contribute to its overall success. Outputs and Deliverables: ? Membership databases are well structured, maintained, monitored and organized and importantly connected to the broader UNEP FI and Banking team data ecosystem, including any new future systems procured. ? Management and team members are regularly provided with up-to-date target information, key figures and visuals on membership and membership segments. ? Improved data-driven processes and enhanced data collection tools. ? Data analysis and visuals are provided for progress reporting monthly to governing bodies including the Steering Group and annually for progress reports, and on ad-hoc basis to support communications. The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head of UNEP FI. On a day-to-day basis, the incumbent will report to the Head of the Banking Team and work closely with UNEP FI colleagues responsible for data management.

Requirements:
