Within limits of delegated authority, the National Professional Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration – CVR Officer will be responsible for the following duties: ? Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration – CVR activities in assigned region in accordance with the mandate of the Mission. ? Monitor and analyze specific aspects of disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration CVR activities; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and recommend corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions. ? Carry out basic research on DDR/RR CVR related subjects, operations and other activities, etc., to include collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources. ? Monitor, assess and analyze the political situation within assigned area of responsibility. In consultation with a DDR Officer, contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. on DDR/RR-CVR related issues. ? Liaise with representatives of the local government and international counterparts. Liaise with all relevant UN agencies, civil society and representatives of parties to the conflict. ? Participate in discussions with the Mission’s civilian and military components to mainstream the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration concept in the Mission. Present briefings, including briefings to military observers attending induction courses, as required. ? Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc. ? Maintain awareness of current DDR/RR-CVR issues, to include relevant political, policy, gender considerations or other developments in specific subject area, country or region concerned. Organize visits to the assigned region/country for high-level UN officials. ? Organize field visits for high-level UN officials; participate in field visits to review implementation of various DDR/RR-CVR activities, including provision of substantive and administrative support. ? Perform other related duties as required.
Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, public administration, law, international economics or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
At least two (2) years of progressive professional experience in Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR), protection of civilian, political affairs, humanitarian affairs, public administration, or related area is required. Knowledge of the institutional mandates, the policies and the directives concerning assistance and transition / rapid recovery of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in French is required; and knowledge of English is an advantage. Knowledge of a local language is an advantage.
