Responsibilities:

Within the limits of delegated authority, the incumbent at this level performs the following duties: ? Deliver the flight following & radio room communication services. ? Checks and tests all relevant equipment and log their serviceability before commencing flight operations every morning. Report unserviceable equipment to the Air Operations Officer & or MAOC Duty Officer for appropriate action. ? Keep track of all UN aircraft in flight within & outside the mission area. ? Monitor & control all communication with UN aircraft to ensure that all missions are executed safely & in accordance with ICAO regulations, DPKO aviation manual, MINUSCA aviation SOP, local area procedures & daily flight schedule. ? Maintain continuous watch on the assigned communication channels. ? Record all landings & departure times of each UN aircraft, persons on board & fuel endurance. ? Disseminate arrival / departure information of UN flights for other airfields / helipads to respective air regions. ? Convey administrative & operational messages between aircraft & air operations. ? Keep informed Air Operations Officer / MAOC / Regional Air Operation Officer on all significant matters pertaining to aircraft operations & aviation safety. ? Record mandatory & relevant information in the flight following radio log. ? Record significant information in flight following / incident occurrence logbook. ? Provide required assistance & relay directives / information & coordinate activities in case of significant weather abnormalities, aircraft emergencies / distress, MEDEVAC or CASEVAC. ? Participate in search & rescue activities at his / her level. ? Maintain accurate database for aircraft daily & monthly flight hours. ? Aid aircraft under emergency (dead radio, NAV aids failure, etc). ? Provide flight / weather information service if required. ? Assist aircrews in filling flight plans & obtaining weather information & necessary clearances relevant to their departure, enroute & arrival airports. ? Coordinate movement of UN aircraft with the host country ATC authorities. ? Maintain all aeronautical documentation (ICAO annexes, Jeppesen, AIP, NOTAM, etc.) in air operations. ? Participate in flight planning, coordination & paperwork compilation. ? Liaise with other Mission offices in relation to aviation activities. ? Coordinate to ensure accurate flight hour reports for each flight and for all aircraft types, both civilian and military, in AIMS (Aviation Information Management Suite).

Requirements:

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job – Specific Qualification

A technical or vocational certificate in aviation related activities (Pilot, Air Traffic Controller, Flight Information Officer) or Logistics is desirable. A diploma from an equivalent military establishment or military/air traffic control training is desirable.

Work Experience

At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in aviation industry is required. The minimum years of relevant work experience is reduced to 3 for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in an occupation directly related to air traffic navigation services or flight coordination is desirable. Experience in using the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in French and English is required.
