Responsibilities: 

Under the overall guidance of Deputy Representative and direct supervision of Program Specialist SRHR/HIV, the UN Volunteer will contribute to a technical team working to implement all UNFPA mandate in SRHR with special focus on adolescent and youth reproductive health, education, HIV and youth empowerment, participation and engagement, in the development context. The UNV will specifically undertake the following tasks:
1. Technical and Program support
● Support in the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the SRHR, HIV and A&Y work plans including preparations of annual work plans, results matrix, and financial reports.
● Support the periodic documentation and dissemination of program lessons learned and best practices for adolescents and youth development and sexual and reproductive health and rights and HIV.
● Assist to undertake desk research on specific topics, inform the development of policy briefs within the areas of adolescents and youth health, wellbeing and empowerment and participation.

● Contribute to writing briefing notes and talking points on the adolescents and youth program for the country management.
● Contribute to Tanzania’s Country Office resource mobilization strategy by taking part as part of the team in writing concept notes and proposals related to SRHR, HIV and Adolescent and youth development.
● Provide support in the organizing of capacity building of youth networks in the UNFPA-supported regions.
● Contribute to planning, monitoring, and reporting of culturally appropriate, gender-sensitive, rights and evidence-based approaches to adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
● Contribute to building and operationalizing an evidence based on current and emerging adolescent sexual reproductive health issues to inform national and sectoral policy development and monitoring.

  1. Network and Coordination
    ● Support and engage in a UN sub-group on youth development and development partners meetings and communications for implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and other National protocols and strategic priorities to address relevant outcomes relating to SRHR, HIV and A&Y development as required.
    ● Provide secretarial and logistical support to Safeguard Young People Program and UN subgroups on youth and other projects implemented under affirmative action/LNOB theme.
    ● Provide logistical support to programs and participate in organizing events that promote UNFPA work on ASRHR, HIV, adolescents and youth empowerment, engagement and participation, and development, such as international and national days.
    ● Perform any other duties assigned by his/her supervisor.
  2. Learning and Voluntary Action
    UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers program mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
    ● Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and taking an active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day).
    ● Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local volunteerism in the host country.
    ● Provide annual and end-of-assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
    ● Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
    ● Assist with the UNV Buddy program for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
    ● Promote or advise local groups in utilizing online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever possible.

Requirements: 

or demonstrated interest in working on adolescents and young people’s issues, and/or sexual and reproductive health and rights, education, gender equality and women empowerment and/or gender-based violence, human rights and HIV/AIDS particularly in a developing context.
● Basic knowledge of the gender equality and women and girl’s empowerment context and trends, and an understanding of the social, cultural, and economic dimensions.

● Strong communication skills with experience in documentation of best practices and use of social media, interpersonal and mass media approaches for social behavior change communication with a diverse group of stakeholders and beneficiaries.
● Ability to work in a multicultural environment, willingness to work with people and local organizations to draw upon the synergies between expert solutions and local knowledge.
● Ability to adjust in difficult living conditions and sometimes remote locations.
● Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
● Excellent team player with strong partnership and networking skills.
● Prior volunteering and/or working experience in a developing country is an asset.
● Candidate must be proficient in current office software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).
● Strong analytical orientation and sound judgment; initiative, culturally sensitive and resourceful.
● Dedication to the United Nations principles and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a team, and with persons of different nationalities.
● Fluency in oral English and excellent writing skills in English are required.
● Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience in another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be an asset.
