Responsibilities:

? Publications strategy
? Guarantee that the publications produced by the CO contribute to the promotion and protection of the rights of boys and girls, globally and nationally, along with being a contribution to making visible the situation of children and adolescents.
? Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of strategies for awareness – raising, and advocacy.
? Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of publication strategies for corporate partnerships. Liaise with corporate partner’s communication agencies to effectible implement strategies.
? Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of publications strategies for special events. Helps identify potential partners for dissemination of information.

? Communicational materials
Ensure that the production of communication products and materials is timely executed and followed up to support country communication strategy, regional and global priorities and to support resource mobilization as set out in the work plan.
? Implement the tasks in the country communication work plan and strategy as assigned.
? Gather content and coverage of relevant country efforts to identify effective relevant country programme activities and results.
? Edit content of publications related with the main Program’s priority.
? Assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials for both web-based and traditional media, as appropriate, related with publications contents.
? Assist in the establishment of contacts, networks, resources and processes to support publications distribution.
? Monitor and evaluate the appropriate and timely dissemination of publications to target audiences. Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of the materials.

? Publications Content Management

Ensure the correct application of the UNICEF publications style manual and the UNICEF design brand manual.

? Maintain and update contact list/database to ensure rapid and accurate publications dissemination to different audiences.
? Coordinate the editing and design process of the publications, identifying the type of editing and design that the document requires, providing guidelines for the review and editing of the contents. This implies selecting the editor from the roster of editors and the roster of designers the most appropriate professional for the type of publication and supervising their work.
? Coordinate the editing and design proposal with the person responsible for the publication of the Programs area and review the information of the illustrations, figures, graphs and tables used.
? Alert UNICEF about inconsistencies in the content and/or information that seems contrary to the promotion of children’s rights.
? Verify and ensure the correct use of credits, abbreviations/acronyms, data and bibliographical references, footers and sources of information.
? Supervise that all changes and corrections have been duly incorporated into the final publication before publication.
? Coordinate publication of PDF files on the institutional website.
? Supervise print work (when applicable) between editor, designer and printer.

? Partners
Ensure that the Country Office’s contact list of individuals, groups, organizations and fora (including Government, UN, and bilateral counterparts), are maintained and further developed, whose support is essential to/can assist in achieving the advocacy and communication objectives and who support and are able to actively participate in special events and activities that further the country programme goals.
? Help develop and maintain a close collaboration with the media, as well as with groups and organizations whose support is essential to achieve the correct promotion and communication of the publications.
? Monitoring the publications process to ensure effectiveness of the work.
? Prepare background communication and promotional materials for briefings and visits of media, Goodwill Ambassadors, and other special interest groups. The task includes preparing information materials (e.g., press releases, programme summaries, country fact sheets and media kits), and assisting in the planning, logistics and administrative arrangements.

Requirements:

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses in Communications, Journalism or related fields.
  • Work Experience: 6 years of professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media.
    Experience in international organizations or non-profit sector is an asset.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized academic institution in a field relevant to the position may be considered to compensate for three (3) years of experience in case the candidate lacks the required experience.
  • A master’s degree from a recognized academic institution in a field relevant to the position may be considered to compensate for an additional two (2) years (in addition to the three years from above, totaling 5 years).

Desirables:

  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
