Responsibilities:

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Please visit our website at www.eclac.org for further information. The internship in the ECLAC Washington Office will last between 2 and 6 months, depending on the Office’s needs. Candidates may be selected on an “as-needed” basis throughout the posting period. Under the supervision or overall guidance of the Office’s Director and other staff, the intern will perform duties to support the team in the research agenda of the Office. Tasks will include but not be limited to: – Research on topics such as Artificial Intelligence, new technologies, and their impact on economic development (with a focus on LAC). – Conduct literature reviews to understand the current state of the research topic and its implications for LAC. – Summarize and analyze relevant research papers and publications. – Participate in team meetings and discussions. – Attend relevant conferences, webinars, and seminars. – Collect information from official country data, specialized agencies, and other sources. – Review and compile the collected data and information, prepare reports, and update databases of the Office, incorporating appropriate tables, graphs, and charts with references. – The intern may also be asked to assist in the day-to-day work of the Office if required.

Requirements:

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
