Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority the Senior Journeyman shall perform the following duties and responsibilities: ? Maintains all existing electrical systems; ? Ensures that the electrical installations/works meet safety standards in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and New York City (NYC) building codes, norms and regulations; ? Diagnoses problems and provides solutions when electrical installations and the electrical portions of power supply systems show signs of defects or malfunction; ? Performs scheduled routine work and preventive maintenance; ? Performs emergency repairs as required; ? Troubleshoots causes for malfunctions or breakdowns; ? Rectifies problems and properly size electrical loads in accordance with the power supply equipment available; ? Performs surveys, prepares technical reports; ? Reads technical drawings and schematics, wiring diagrams, and designs electrical installations; ? Prepares specifications for electrical equipment, electrical fittings, fixtures, cables, switch gear, panels, electrical technicians’ tools; ? Inspects the works of Journeymen and trade assistants; ? Initiates corrective actions to secure satisfactory standards and timely completion of works; ? Assists in the planning, development, and execution of work procedures and schedules; ? Assigns equipment and usage schedules, and ensure equipment maintenance; estimate material and labour requirements; ? Executes all maintenance, repair, and installation duties; ? Conducts scheduled inspections to detect short circuits and electrical malfunctions; ? Reports electrical faults and submit regular maintenance reports to the Foreperson; ? Assists in the maintenance of inventory records of all equipment, tools, spare parts, materials, and maintenance activities; ? Checks levels of stocks regularly and recommends placing orders for spare parts; ? Assists the Foreperson and Lead Mechanic in evaluating the performance of staff and outside contractors; and ? Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

Education

High School or equivalent Trade School Diploma is required.

Job – Specific Qualification

A certification in OSHA construction safety is desirable. Relevant training in Class 3 wiring is desirable. Knowledge and understanding of computerized lighting systems is desirable. Knowledge of motors, transformers and motor control systems is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of experience in installing, servicing, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment and installations is required. Experience working in the electrical trade in a large organization comparable to the UN Secretariat or electrical sector company is desirable. Experience working under a licensed Master Electrician is desirable. Experience working with wiring trouble-shooting is desirable. Experience working with control wiring is desirable. Experience working with Class 2 wiring is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
