Responsibilities: The intern will work under the supervision of and report to the Social Affairs Officer in the Indigenous Peoples Development Branch – Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (IPDB-SPFII). The intern will contribute to research, communication, and the development of knowledge products on topics related to Indigenous peoples, such as the digital transition, social protection, food security, poverty alleviation, health, quality education, decent work, sustainable communities, climate action, and the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Tasks may include, but are not limited to: ? Assist with preparations for the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples event; ? Provide support to staff related to the Expert Group Meeting; ? Assist with messaging for social media and communications support to the Secretariat as required; ? Assist with website management in in English-French or English-Spanish, depending on language skills. This internship is designed to be full-time. Duties will be carried out in a hybrid manner (both at UNHQ in New York, as well as telecommuting from within the duty station). A part-time schedule may be considered on a very exceptional basis depending on the individual situation of the selected candidate. The internship will begin with an initial duration of 2 months, with the opportunity of an extension for up to a total of 6 months.

Requirements: 

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
