Responsibilities:

The Junior Professional (YP) will assist the team with legal research, analysis, drafting, logistics and coordination associated with a broad range of legal matters and perform a variety of tasks, including the following:
• Conduct legal research, write briefs and draft documents on a broad variety of legal issues as they arise (e.g. cases of disputes, governance, legal requirements under a different jurisdiction);
• Draft initial legal briefs and correspondence and prepare case summary and initial assessment based on the research carried out and the analysis of the documentation;
• Provide support with the preparation of training material and assist with the logistic linked to training sessions, including preparation of slides, organizing meetings; bundles of documents; drafting correspondence;
• Provide support with the preparation and updates of guidance tools related to legal matters, the use of OLA’s systems and electronic tools as well as other procedures which may contribute to streamlining processes;
• Provide support on procedural matters, including answering day to day questions about the contract review process, OLA’s systems and electronic tools and delegation of authority policy with the appropriate guidance from the Legal Officer as necessary;
• Provide support on corporate matters including draft and review legal and corporate documents such as Power of attorneys and statements, , undertake all necessary actions to legalize certain documents and contact with registration authorities as required;
• Provide occasional support on contract work, including preparing contract documents based on relevant contract templates and support with the initial assessment of simple contracts (e.g. consultants);
• Filing of contracts and other legal documents in paper and electronic form;
• Maintenance of OLA’s workflow electronic tool, including Legal Cases and Contract related database by assisting other team members in keeping OLA’s electronic files up to date with all relevant data and gathering relevant information from internal clients;
• Handle any other ad-hoc assignments.

Requirements:

• Bachelor degree or equivalent.

• Minimum of one year’s experience as paralegal.

• Broad basic legal knowledge and paralegal know how (legal research, legal writing, legal presentation).

• Experience in online research of legal documentation, in analysis and ability to synthesize the information gathered.

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities, to prioritize workload and to meet deadlines in a typically high pressure work environment.

• Ability to quickly and efficiently familiarize with new areas.

• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Excellent written and spoken English and French are essential for this position. Good working knowledge of Spanish would be an asset.

• Personal integrity, initiative, adaptability, and sound judgement.

• Ability to adapt to new environments, and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.

• Exposure to international work environments is a plus

• Paralegal certificate a plus.
