Responsibilities:

1.Collect data on greenhouse gas emissions, water and waste from ILO headquarters and the field offices and ensure input in the dedicated calculation software. Check the data quality and reliability and compile the data in a report in coordination with the United Nations Environmental Programme. Prepare a dedicated headquarters data subset report for the supervisor’s review and submission to 2050Today initiative.
2.Assist in preparing comparative reports on Greenhouse Gas emissions for ILO headquarters and the field offices for presentation to the Environmental Sustainability Committee and the respective field offices. Prepare information and provide technical support in the assessment of ILO’s environmental performance by auditors.
3.Attend/follow Interagency meetings dealing with environmental sustainability aspects of operations; prepare presentations of measures implemented at ILO when needed. Share the knowledge and best practices obtained from other agencies with the relevant ILO stakeholders at headquarters and in the field offices.
4.Provide technical support to greening the ILO operations, including but not limited to input for the environmental requirements in bidding documents, assistance in the analysis of proposed technical solutions and operating procedures and a preliminary analysis of the technical and financial feasibility of environmental measures.
5.Provide support in the implementation of the Environmental Sustainability Policy on operations at ILO headquarters and in field offices, including during the development and implementation of sustainability projects.
6.Provide support in coordinating the input and update of the operational section of the environmental sustainability action plan.
7.Collaborate with the Priority Action Program on Just Transition and provide assistance in the development of staff engagement and staff awareness raising campaigns.
8.Perform other relevant duties as requested.

Requirements:

Education

First level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in environmental science or related field.

Experience

At least three years of experience in environmental management and sustainable development of building operations and activities in an office environment. Experience in Greenhouse Gas Inventory, environmental impact assessment and auditing of building operations would be an advantage.

Languages

Excellent command of one working language (English, French, Spanish) of the Organization and a working knowledge of a second working language of the Organization. One of these languages must be English.

Competencies

In addition to the ILO core competencies, this position requires:

Knowledge of methodologies for carbon accounting. Knowledge of facilities operations, including energy, water, natural resources and waste management.
Knowledge of IT applications for information collection, management and dissemination.
