Responsibilities:

Under supervision of the Control and Response Strategies technical officer for AMS, the consultant will:

  • Output 1: Support the development of tools and guidance for the implementation and adaptation of the WHO AWaRe antibiotic book.
    • Deliverable 1.1 – Guidance document for countries on how to adapt the WHO AWaRe antibiotic book to country contexts (e.g. if countries already have national guidelines or AMR surveillance data).
    • Deliverable 1.2 – Guidance document for WHO regional and country offices on how to review and align national treatment guidelines with the AWaRe system.
    • Deliverable 1.3 – Guidance document for the implementation of the WHO AWaRe antibiotic book in primary health care settings.
  • Output 2: Support the update of the WHO AMS practical toolkit.
    • Deliverable 2.1 – Surgical prophylaxis module for the WHO AMS practical toolkit, including audit tool, information, education and communication materials and template for providing feedback.
    • Deliverable 2.2 – Intravenous to oral switch module for the WHO AMS practical toolkit, including audit tool, information, education and communication materials and template for providing feedback.
    • Deliverable 2.3 – Concept outline for a primary care module for the WHO AMS practical toolkit.
  • Output 3: Support the convening of the WHO AWaRe technical advisory group.
    • Deliverable 3.1 – Agenda and programme of work for the first meeting of the WHO AWaRe technical advisory group.
    • Deliverable 3.2 – Background documents for the first meeting of the WHO AWaRe technical advisory group.
    • Deliverable 3.3 – Report of the first meeting of the WHO AWaRe technical advisory group.
  • Output 4: Support capacity building of healthcare workers in implementation of AMS.
    • Deliverable 4.1 – Series of PowerPoint presentations for education and training of healthcare workers responsible for implementing AMS in healthcare facilities.

Requirements: 

Educational Qualifications:

Essential:

Advertisement
  • First university degree in medicine, pharmacy and/or relevant public health and clinical fields.

Desirable:

  • Advanced university degree in medicine, pharmacology, clinical microbiology, clinical pharmacy, epidemiology, infectious diseases or public health.

Experience:

Essential:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the area of AMS and/or related field.

Desirable:

  • Experience at national and/or international level.
  • Experience working in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Experience working with an international or UN agency.

Skills:

Essential:

  • Good knowledge of WHO AMS guidance and tools.
  • Understanding of health systems and service delivery in resource-limited settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact tactfully with multiple stakeholders in an international environment.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
  • Ability to provide high-level support to meetings.

Desirable:

  • Research skills, particularly in AMR or relevant area.
  • Effective presentation skills.

Languages required:

Essential:

  • Expert knowledge of English.

Desirable:
