Responsibilities:

  • Support scheduling and processing of one-on-one health intakes to gather information on individual needs and follow up.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure timely scheduling and attendance at needed healthcare appointments, including primary care, health screenings and specialty care.
  • Conduct transit and clinic orientations to promote self-sufficiency and improve individual community navigation milestones.
  • Support as a point of contact for assigned refugee cases during the first 3-6 months specifically as health needs arise.
  • Meet expectations of the AmeriCorps service opportunity in compliance with all federal rules.
  • Participate in all relevant team meetings, staff meetings, and AmeriCorps trainings and calls, etc.
  • Support general office logistics, such as office support and front desk, as applicable and feasible.
  • Maintain professionalism, customer service, and IRC Way ideals when working with the community.
  • Other reasonable tasks and projects as assigned.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an in depth understanding of the social determinants of health and how they impact the newly arrived refugee community.
  • Develop skills used to navigate the health care system in Utah from various perspectives.
  • Gain a better understanding of refugee resettlement and the ecosystem of support for newly arriving refugees.
  • Develop skills to effectively build and sustain partnerships integral to service delivery.

Requirements:

  • A valid drivers’ license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to apply.

Education OR Work Experience: Preference will be give to those with work or academic experience in the subject matter area noted in the position.
