Responsibilities:

  • Manage engineering studies pertaining to the Beam Dump Facility Target Complex of the High Intensity ECN3 Project.
  • Specify the procurement and follow-up engineering studies performed by contractors for a primary vacuum vessel and for a trolley system containing beam intercepting devices.
  • Carry out an assessment of failure modes of the different systems (including tests).
  • Coordinate the system and design integration of the different components of the target systems, including the definition of the respective interfaces.
  • Support and liaise with draughtsmen in the design optimisation of the target systems.
  • Coordinate the systems engineering and sequencing definition between the key players of the project.
  • Collaborate with the CERN stakeholders to identify procurement strategies and refine cost estimates for key components. Liaise with industrial partners to adopt proven technical solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, physicists, and fellow engineers to align engineering specifications and production constraints with physics requirements.

Requirements:

Skills and/or knowledge

  • A degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Nuclear Engineering or Structural engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering, integration and steel structures.
  • Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computer Aided Design (CAD).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and innovative thinking.
  • Expertise of design in presence of radiation and risk of contamination is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
