Overview

As a Configuration Management Engineer within the Configuration Management Section (CMS), you will coordinate the Configuration Control Board and ITER Design Authority Board and ensure that the impacts of changes on scope, cost and schedules are assessed and reviewed with all stakeholders and implemented timely in the ITER Baselines.

As a Configuration Management Engineer, your goals include :

  • Organization of the Configuration Control Board and ITER Design Authority Board in support to the Chairperson : Agenda, Record of Decision, Follow-up of actions, … ;
  • Coordination of the impact assessment and the implementation of the Change Requests.

  • Effective coordination and communication within the ITER Organization, stakeholders, and stakeholder organizations to ensure that the impacts of changes on scope, cost and schedules are assessed, reviewed, and implemented within the ITER baseline parameters.

Key Duties, Scope, and Level of Accountability

  • Primary Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that changes of project scope, cost, schedule baselines are processed, approved, and implemented on time;
  • Proactively interacts with ITER stakeholders to ensure that the impacts of project changes are promptly communicated, assessed, reviewed, and endorsed;
  • Prepares recommendations and reports for the Configuration Control Board chairperson and other committees (e.g. ITER Design Authority Board, Management Advisory Committee, …) on the status of changes, and impacts on the project cost and schedule;
  • Coordinates the work of teams involved in the preparation of the change proposals and ensure efficient communication with all affected staff;
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Supports line management and Central Integration Division (CID) Head in the definition of metrics to assess the change control process and constantly seeks to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of the process;
  • Ensures that Change Control Procedures are applied and that changes to the baselines are only implemented when authorized;
  • Support the development and improvement of Change Control procedures and related enabling tools;
  • Perform other duties on Configuration Management in support of the project needs.

Experience & Profile

  • Demonstrated experience and technical competencies in:
    • P2: Minimum 5 years’ experience in the management of projects and portfolios of large scientific and/or nuclear projects;
    • P3: Minimum 8 years’ experience in the management of projects and portfolios of large scientific and/or nuclear projects.
    • Essential competencies and experience required for success in the role:
      • Management of configuration baselines, including configuration control (management of changes, deviations and non-conformances), configuration status accounting (production of reports on baselines status), and configuration verifications and audits (including both IO and DA baselines).
      • Anticipating and balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders, and developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
      • Scope management: defining, controlling, and managing the work scope of a project or activity, including the identification and management of changes, and associated reports and/or documentation;
      • Ensuring accountability by holding self and others accountable to meet commitments.
      • Analyzing complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
    • Advantageous competencies and experience:
      • Experience in large international organizations or complex science-based projects.
  • Education:
    • Essential: Master’s degree or equivalent in an engineering domain or other relevant discipline;
    • The required education degree(s) may be substituted by extensive professional experience involving similar work responsibilities and/or additional training certificates in relevant domains.
  • Language requirements:
    • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

  • Knowledge of these competencies may be acquired through on-board training at basic understanding level for all ITER staff members;
  • Implements the technical control of the Protection Important Activities, as well as their propagation to the entire supply chain;
  • May be requested to perform other duties in support of the project as defined by your line manager, and when relevant upon the request of the matrix manager;
  • May be requested to work outside the ITER Organization reference working hours, including nights, weekends and public holidays, due to business needs – this may include on-call, shift work, etc.
  • May be requested to be part of any of the project/construction teams and to perform other duties in support of the project;
  • For staff expected to perform on-call, shift hours, or other work outside ITER Organization reference working hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, the possession of a driving license valid in France is required. no commuting vehicle will be provided by the ITER Organization.
  • Informs management of any important and urgent issues that cannot be handled by line or matrix management and that may jeopardize the achievement of the Project’s objectives;
