JOB SUMMARY:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The UN Women Jordan Country Office supports the Government of Jordan to implement global norms and standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment. It’s Strategic Note for the period 2023-2027 is directly aligned with the government of Jordan’s Triple Modernization Agenda, the National Strategy for Women, the Jordanian Action Plan for the Implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, and the Jordan Response Plan to the Syrian Crisis and is organized around three main pillars: Gender responsive Governance including Women’s Political Participation, Gender Responsive Budgeting and Security Sector Reform; Women’s Economic Empowerment; and Resilience and Protection including support to Syrian refugee women and the Elimination of Violence against Women. Working across the humanitarian-peace-development nexus, the country office is prioritizing coherence and interlinkages across its projects and programmes and across UN Women’s triple mandate of operational, coordination and normative work.
Reporting to the Women, Peace and Security Programme Specialist, the intern will provide analytical and programmatic support to the implementation of the Jordan National Action Plan on Women Peace and Security Pooled Fund Project.
Under direct supervision of UN Women Jordan CO Programme Specialist on Women, Peace and Security, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

The internship offers the student the opportunity to learn about UN Women’ mandate globally and at country level in particular in the field of Women, Peace and Security including Security Sector Reform, Violence against Women and gender responsive crisis management and social cohesion programming. It is designed to complement gender and development-oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of multilateral technical cooperation, but also complements other international studies, including law.
